i know the 2006 model year xb's are supposed to have the updated hi performance oil pump drive gear. i have a 2005 firebolt that has a production date of jan 05 and was wondering if anyone know's the approx(or exact)prod. date or engine serial# when they were first installed? the reason i ask this is because my 00 X1 millenium was produced in apr 00 and came stock with the beefed up primary chain tensioner that wasnt supposed to be used until june of 2000. i guess i am just hoping to luck out w/ my XB that it already has the better gear. i just checked the oil drive gear on my X1 today and at 19k miles it shows little to no signs of any abnormal wear and all the teeth are present. this is my 1st post so forgive me if it is in the wrong spot, i couldnt find any current postings on this. i just registered last week after reading these boards for quite some time. |

Easy to drop the oil pump on the next oil change and look up there with a mirror or a digital camera. If it looks like a shiny brass, it's the new one. If it looks like a greyish matte steel, it's the old one. If it's worn to a knife edge, you are lucky you looked when you did Buell had the data and customer support could have told you based on VIN, but I don't know if we are going to continue to get that level of extraordinary support from a t-shirt and sub prime lender company run (badly) by a guy that made car parts. |
