Is there one that is seen as head and shoulders better than the others for the Uly? Where is the best place to buy that 'best one'? Ths. |

Hmm - "Best" one I think is one that fits. I have the Koako - which 'fits' with the handguards & does the job flawlessly. They're not cheap ($150) and the bar end wts are only about 5oz. But does exactly what i want and no 'jury rigging". There are others that also provide good results - but I have no experience with 'em. |

PS - just 'ping' Kaoko - I think they're made in South Africa - but get shipped out of NJ. lot's of Beemers use 'em. |

How do you fit the stock Ulysses hand guards with the extra length of the cruise control and bar end weight? Photo? |

Ths. Jphish, Was it a quick 'install'? Do you adjust with little finger as they say or do you reach over with your left hand? It fits perfectly? Have you, or anyone else, seen how Throttlemeisters fit on xt's? I'm wondering if the hand guards can stay in place and have the throttlemeister on the outside. The Kaoko seems simple and to fit well, while the throttlemeisters offer more weight to help with any vibration and seem to add a little fall over protection. Do they, and do they fit with hand guards? Ths. |

Step 1: Cut the straight bottom portion out of a coat hanger, put heat shrink tube around the middle 3-4 inches of it. Step 2: Wrap the hanger around your throttle grip then twist the two ends together keeping them long enough to rest on top of the front brake lever. Step 3: When you want cruise, push the hangar down onto the brake lever. When you want to slow down/stop, just force the throttle grip closed. Redneck cruise control for less than $1.00 |

I put a Throttlemeister on my XT. I had to make up some adaptors on a lathe, but this is how it turned out:

Ths. folks. I really appreciate the good input, and yes I'm including pk's 'unique' rec. in that! lol Kaoko's ad says they go on in 5 minutes. Is that so? Just screws on or? Ths. |

Here's what my Kaokos look like. They really DID take about 5 minutes to install.

You guys think a cruise control would work with Barkbusters? I live in two worlds... |

So you just stretch the guard out to the end of the cruise unit? Have either of the hand guards cracked from being stretched out? |

15,000 mi / 18 mos - no cracking/stretching of handguards with Kaokos. Don't know about others. It took me about 15 mins to install. NOTE: I'm not sure they cover this with instructions - but I used a wee bit of Blue locktite on ss screws that go into handlebar ends...after I lost one in Yukon. The tendency is to over tighten those screws - Dont! I used SS washer between screw head & bar end. System works great. If you install it right - you can just forget about it - no maint required. |

The hand guards are actually very flexible. When you install the bar ends, you'll notice that the guards really don't have to be moved that much anyway. I've had no issues at all. The only issue I had was the delivery time...and I was aware of this before hand. If you get the Kaokos, this link will show all the US dealers http://www.kaoko.com/usadealer.html |

BuellerXT - ya cant beat '87's idea for cost and probably works ok. Have similar 'system' on my KLR. But - yes - the Kaoko's require NO modification to fit. Ya just pop the cheap plastic plugs out of the bar ends and replace with the hardware supplied. Instructions, as I recall, are pretty good. Has variable friction adjustment that allows for easy 'little finger' operation. |
