I apologize if this has been brought up before. I'm new to the Ulysses boards and haven't spotted any thread specifically comparing the heat/comfort issues on the Ulysses to the X1, so I thought I'd share. As some of you may know, the X1 was the only tube frame model to have a scoop mounted to the left side of the fuel tank cover which directs air across the rear cylinder, much like the left scoop on all XB models. Stock X1's also had a large airbox mounted on the right side which blocked a lot of the heated air from the rear cylinder from blowing onto the rider's right leg. Most X1 owners who have removed this large airbox in favor of a forcewinder, hamcan, or other aftermarket alternative have also removed the left side scoop to keep the bike's aesthetic symmetry. I, however, have kept a left side scoop on mine even after replacing the stock airbox with a forcewinder. The XL engine is a thing of beauty IMO and I'd love to expose it as much as possible, but after experimenting with different setups, It is my belief that the X1's LSS is a very functional piece and helps keep rear cylinder temperatures down. Since purchasing a Ulysses last week and putting a few hundred miles on it without installing the comfort kit, I am constantly thinking about how similar the heat on my right leg is so similar to the heat felt when I ride my X1. I've already ordered the comfort kit for my XT, but I think I'll be waiting to install it until next spring. I like the idea of keeping at least half of my lower body warm while riding during the coming fall and winter! (Message edited by pkforbes87 on October 22, 2009) |

PK!!! Hey bro, Well, I'm mostly healed from wrecking my X1. Still got some work to do.... Anyway, 20 minutes ago, I just bought a Uly! Took the plunge. '09 XT $8,000. out the door. Not a fantastic deal, but pretty good. Do they come with cruise? Be awesome! Great to know you'll be in this board |

Nope, no cruise on any Buell models. The most common cruise I've seen used is the throttlemeister bar end lock. If you want just a little something to give your right hand a break, a crampbuster might be what you're looking for. I've also used a piece of coat hanger as a throttle lock before. Cut the straight portion from the bottom of the hanger, then slide some heat shrink tubing to the center of the piece and melt it down tight against the metal. Bend the hanger around your throttle grip then twist the ends together leaving enough length so that the twisted ends can rest against the top of the brake lever and prevent the throttle from springing closed. Experiment with the twisting until you find the right amount of tension. You'll find that sweet spot so you can rotate the hanger on the throttle grip when needed, but it will still slip and allow you to manually close the throttle. The heat shrink tubing helps give you more friction on the throttle grip without the bare metal hanger cutting into the rubber. |

When you install the comfort kit it warms both frame rails and gives heat fairly evenly side to side. If your chilled just squeeze the frame rail between you legs to warm up! |

The comfort kit is on my short list of desired Uly upgrades. 400+ miles and 2 days later, I'm very impressed overall. Congrats, Whisperstealth! Great bike at a most excellent price! |

I have a 2006 XB12X Ulysses and when they start making a comfort kit that will blow some warm air on my left leg like it does on my right side, I'm going to but it!

"$8,000. out the door. Not a fantastic deal" $5000 off MSRP. I'd say that's a good deal. I paid the same and so far, haven't heard of a better deal on a new 09 XT. |

Hey Pk, "XB12XP but they removed the lights and siren. After taxes and doc fees, it was under $7500.00 OTD" - Okay, that's an XP. When I saw that, the next day I tried to get mine for the same deal, but no go - Cool to know we got the same bike, even color. So, I'll follow your threads and see what you do as it needs done. - I bought mine from a Harley dealer, blowing out Buells. They normally don't carry them. Can I have them do the latest ECM update? Will there gear beable to do it. Bike is in Kentucky, I'll go a pick it up late next week... So, I'm jones'in... |

A non-Buell dealer can't work on a Buell. You would need to take it to a Buell dealer for service and reflashing. |
