I was riding home this afternoon - nothing new - my typical commute (short & in city). Shifting felt weird in first and second (didn't go any faster). When I finally got out of traffic and could get to third it wouldn't shift. Going from 2nd to neutral up and down a couple times then I could get into 3rd but couldn't get back into 1st. I checked the linkages but nothing seems loose. I found this post: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/327 77/453673.html I gave it a gentle wack but it didn't solve the problem. At least not for long, once the bike was warm again. It started to not shift again. If I stop, turn it off and wiggle the bike back and forth, I can get it to shift up and down all the gears. Once started, again it starts to crap out (this time wouldn't go into 1st). Of course my warranty just expired...any help would be appreciated. |

How many miles are on the bike? Check the simple things first. Primary chain adjustment and clutch adjustment. |

Check the bushing on the shift rod as it enters the case. Mine went when it had only 400 miles and had not been installed properly at the factory. The shift lever would not return to a neutral position and felt like a return spring was broken. The dealer replaced the bushing and all has been fine since. |

Simplest stuff first - check clutch adjustment... "Sounds like" it might be dragging just a little bit. Not dragging enough to kill the engine when stopped and idling but dragging enough to keep the tranny under a load JUST ENOUGH to make shifting difficult. |

It has 8000 Km (5000 miles). With the clutch pulled it does drag quite a bit (a bit hard to push the bike). I'll check those out this afternoon. The dealer did replace the cable not that long ago. thanks |

No matter how you adjust the clutch, it will seem to drag if you try to push it in gear...nature of the beast. Sounds like the clip has fallen off the end of the shift drum... |

Since I haven't purchased a service manual yet and the don't have any instock locally(i'm only 20 days out of warranty). I decided to take it into the dealer. Trev Deeley in vancouver. They where great. On the spot they tried to adjust the slack in the cable (which was minor). But that didn't help so I left it with them. Next time I'll be setup with my shop manual and will do it myself. Fingers crossed its just a clip.... BTW, a couple staff said they where dedicated to supporting Buell's for longish haul (the 7 years). |
