Also, when my primary cover broke my lever also felt "spongy" and even though all the way to the handlebar it still let the bike creep forward. It had a totally different feel. |

Guess I'll give it a better look over tomorrow...but when I looked at the lip today it looked perfectly fine aside from the discoloration i mentioned. I'll take some pics. The oil is definitely grayish, I've seen plenty of cars with blown head gaskets and it doesn't have that chocolate milk look. As for the lever I have nothing to compare it against on this bike since it's felt the same since I've owned it, but it's a firmer pull than my friends xb12r. |

I hope it is only an adjustment issue but it seems you have done that ad nauseum. If not the primary cover I would suggest puling the clutch for a closer look. |

Two things. 1) quote:I mean when the lever is fully pulled in there is about 1/2" to 3/4" of space between the lever and the bar between my hand. Before the when the lever was fully pulled it would make contact with the grip.
Are you saying that you cannot now pull the clutch lever all the way in to the grip? If so, that's not right. 2) I've changed the primary oil from HD Sport Trans to Syn3 in my 03 Firebolt and 96 S1, and in both cases, the shifting action felt easier, there was less clacking between gears and there was reduced creep effect with the clutch pulled in thus making it easier to find neutral while stopped. I'd recommend using Syn3 with the oil level just at the bottom of the teeth on the clutch assy with the bike vertical. These clutches can be sensitive to the type and amount of oil put in them. |

Formula+ is even better then Syn3 to me. Shifts much better. Shifted real nice with Mobil 1 but at the cost of a stator.... |

ok sorry about that, but most people don't understand the dragging motion. did you have this dragging problem before you changed the oil ? (to motul 7100 ) and did you use engine oil before this change ? did you tried with a normal gearbox oil? ( formula+ is very good ) the silver fluid comming out, was it only color silver, or also magnetic ( put some on a papercloth and try with a magnet ) engine oils like 7100 are very good in the engine but not for the drive train, they have cleaning dopes, this could cause the colour, normaly there is always a residu on the inside off the trans left over by time, the primairy cover breaking thing i have only seen on 2004-2005 year xb12 covers, looking at a black cover i don't think, that's a problem |

@sparky - that was the first time I adjusted it, I readjusted it and now it comes all the way to the grip. @ bud - I bought the bike with the motul 7100 in both holes, so I don't know. Can't tell you about the oil history either. I didn't check to see if the fluid was magnetic, if it happens again I'll see. Haven't really considered a gear oil since the other guys I know with xb's run the mobil 1 and haven't had any issues. I suppose it's worth a try. |

Nah it's been raining here the past couple days and in the 40's...I do wet or cold but not both. I want to ride it some more and see if the fluid gets dark again. When I changed the fluid for the 2nd time I noticed that the clutch was dragging a bit less while on the rearstand. I'm thinking (or maybe hoping) it might be possible that the other oil may have loosened some deposits or whatnot like bud had mentioned which is making it drag. I'm going to give it another 500 miles or so to see how dirty the fluid gets again before I pull everything out and measure it. |
