If you're going to do the frame I would have a bar welded in for a frame brace on the left side. Just like the newer M2s and X1s have. |

yes its definately pinched, bent, gouged... im thinking a new used frame in good shape, transfer everything over into it and fix/replace as i go along, and do a few perf. mods while im at it. its just a matter of what do i do about the vin? a friend of mine (owns his own body shop and does custom work all the time) is confident he can repair it to its original shape and be stronger than original. and can also run a brace behind it (where it cant be seen) it definately would be much easier not having to hassle with the vin. i also want to mod the frame up front to get a tad bit more steering, i dont know about the stock forks, but the xb ones i have hit the frame, its about 1/2 the steering deflection as my blast, maybe a little less... hes pretty confident about that too (Message edited by the4ork on October 12, 2009) |

Ricky, keep in mind the frame is 4130 Chromoly, not steel. I would be very weary of any cutting the neck and modifying. Just my opinion. The bracing behind the repair sounds like a good idea. Rather than extending the neck, it would be more feasible to have custom triple trees built that hold the forks about 3/4" forward of the current triples, and move the pinch bolts to the front of the trees. That way you have a slightly more neutral steering feel, as well as a few degrees of extra turning on each side. If the forks are too forward of the steering neck, you will have sluggish feel in the steering, like a Sportster instead of a Buell. For this reason I don't recommend the Accutronix triple trees that pop up on eBay. They push the forks a full inch forward of the tuber's locale, for use with custom rake frames, for clearance when using a Sportster peanut tank. (Message edited by phelan on October 12, 2009) |

Oh, that may actually work lol, where the bolts hit the frame eh? Just brace it to make sure it's strong enough. A lot is riding on these 19 lbs of Chromoly... |

the firebolt forks are 54mm? vs stock at 43mm? something like that. they are much fatter, so thats 11mm of turning to each side, so 22mm total that i cant utilize, not sure what that equates to in degrees but this bike has less turning ability than a street bike (cbr600 or r6) |

It uses Harley style bars, with Harley style risers. It's nice to have polyurethane bushings in the risers, but they're all heavy and set up for 1" handlebars. You'd have to shim them down for 7/8" bars. |

Stock Tuber inverted forks are 54 mm. The XB forks are tapered to the top and are acually smaller, hence the 43 mm, except the earlier model XBs, which were also 54 mm. The conventional style M2 forks are also 43 mm. |

Sorry Blake, I meant not common steel. It is a steel alloy, thank you for the correction. Also, your decrease in turning radius is not because of the fork size, but because of their positioning in the trees relative to the steering neck, and the fact that the pinch bolts are in the back. |

The Accutronix forks are for use on choppers, not the stock Buell frame. I believe it even says that in the auctions on eBay. yup i bought the stage III XB heads, pistons, cylinders and rocker boxes $725 shipped im so excited... now what is a part by part list of what i need in addition to install these. im asuming at least cyl head bolts, gaskets, rocker box gaskets? and of course the custom mount also what should i do about the cam? the heads are set up for .600" lift already, so maybe i should do a cam while im at it? any ballpark figure of what size jets im gonna need also? |

Get SE .536 or SE .551 cams as anything above those are more likely to cause valve to piston clearance issues. SE .551s are the sure thing as they are the same specs as the stock XB cams. Congrats BTW. Did you leave him a note telling him that I referred you? |

I should have specified, what I said is in relation to stock XB12 pistons. If the pistons are forged, then I'd go with SE .575 cams . You'll find out when you get them. |

so what am i looking at power wise with the heads/pistons/cams? been looking at alot of dyno charts on the nhrs website... didnt really find anything that was close to my setup, most of them are running the 1250 kit and stage 2/3 thunderstorm heads with mikuni's |

I had sent Him a couple messages beforehand, initiating the deal. He asked me to make sure you told him that I referred you so that he would remember to include the cyls and pistons since they were not part of the original ad. Had you not told him, he would've only sent you the heads and rockerboxes. |

this one is nice but pricey too... i wish i could find one that is unversal speedo, tach (that doesnt go to a million rpm), trip, clock, and thats it... dont need anything else fancy. |

ok so back to forks and bars... i measured the tops of the bars where the triple clamp... clamps. 54mm, went in the xb forum to ask what years were 54mm and they said none... all the forks are in 4xmm sizes so im confused |
