It looks like Avon has a 160/60-17 rear now, which is wider than the 150 that I thought everyone was using. I'm thinking about switching from the 616s since I need front and rear shoes soon....but I need the mud / dirt performance and don't care for the Sync's.

Anyone running the 160 rear?

Any treadlife input?

Treadwear anomolies (like the 616 headshake)?

I'm not unhappy with the performance I'm getting out of the 616s...but if the Distanzias are a little better all-around and a 160 rear isn't too narrow....I may give 'em a shot.

I think that the 160 is what everyone has been using...including me.

I first used the Distanzia about a year and a half ago, but didn't totally wear them out before switching to a dual compound tire for a road trip. This summer I put the Distanzias back on to finish wearing them out. It is looking like...as others have reported...that I will get about 5,000 miles out of the rear. I formally got about 7,000 miles out of each rear Sync I used.

I absolutely love the Distanzias, just wish I got at least another 1,000 miles out of them and I also wish that they did come in a 180! But even with those shortcomings, I am pretty sure that I will be putting another Distanzia on my bike. I absolutely love the feel of the bike with them. There is no headshake at all, and they stick like glue....seriously, I feel like I can lean as much as I want with confidence (and I have scrapped my pegs)!

Plus the tractor type tread pattern looks pretty bad on the Uly!!!

I think the size options follow the tread compound. A super moto compound and the regular compound. The 160 size is the SM and the 150 is the regular compound. Also the front can be sized with either the SM or regular compound. it seams the bigger size is the SM and the smaller sizes are the regular compound.

I've used both and really like the SM better. Sticky!!!! fun!!!! and about 5000 miles out the the rear. Gives the rim a bit mor protection off road. Wet grip is really fun too!!

I got 1800 miles on my rear distanza(150/60-17)that I have on my Honda XR650R in Sumo trim.It is to the wear bars.Do you think I might be pushing it too hard?It sticks like glue & I love it.The 60 series is the SM compound,I think.Be nice if they made it in a 180 dual compound for my Uly.

First I've heard about 616's having head-shake tendencies... I got a set with 3500 miles on them and have noticed a low speed shiver, 'specially so on deceleration. If you let go, it will go in to a full on tank slapper...

Suspension adjustments have seemed to help, but didn't realize or think it could be tire related

Yeah, I have 10k on my front 616. If you "wipe" your hand around the tire you can feel the serrations and cupping. Tire pressures are always monitored and kept to spec.

I'll probably go 616 again - price driven, and the "evil I know", lol - but we'll see how the swap to '07 fork springs affects it (if at all) because that's going to be part of the service menu this time around. Right now (with the factory '06 springs) I run 2 weight ranges heavy on front preload to fight brake dive...maybe that's not helping the cupping. Handling is fine, on-the-edge is fine, but like you said 70W - if you let go, especially on decel...tankslapper time.

I just try not to let go, lol.

Ride twisty, paved and dirt/gravel mountain roads.
On dry and wet roads Distanzias are sticky. Off road handling is greatly improved over stock tires. Great tread. A high confidence tire for me.

2800 miles on the 1st rear tire. Flat worn out, side to side and middle. The leading edges of the tread on the sides had feathered up(soft rubber). Have about 1000 miles on the second rear tire. It appears the front and rear will both be gone at about the same mileage, another 2000 miles? Front tire is showing some sign of minor cupping.

Advertised as a dual compound for high milage and performance. I appreciate the performance but not the milage.

Religious checking tire pressure. Bumped up the front and rear pressure to 36/40. Don't know if it has slowed the wear down yet.

The 160 is the largest Avon. Falls into a curve quicker then a 180. Not a problem.

I am considering another tire the next go round. Maybe 616s?
