well just before I left N. Ga U4eh noticed a pink spot on the alternator housing, I kidded him and said bird poop,
Well errrr nope, I was going out this evening and was going to ride the bike
As it warmed up I got into my 1piece, when I came back there was a hat sized puddle under the motor on the left side,
I was unable to determine the source location.

I have to transport it to the shop this weekend.

I am so glad that it happend as I was leaving Buelltoberfest,
I was lucky it could have been worse. odo 2270 mi

stay tuned, I am hopeful that good things are going to happen.

It will teach me to make jokes about "its steam powered" ...

Hey, you know, sometimes sh!t just breaks.

Let us know what it turns out to be and if your dealer is able to handle it for you.

Bottom line is you have coolant leaking - it can only be so many things (hose or gasket). Shouldn't be difficult to track down.

I think you may be the first to have a coolant system leak... at least one of the very very few. Hope it's something easy.

Damn, Froggy beat me to it. : )

Oldog, be sure to make unreasonable demands like having someone drive to your house and pick it up and such. Then rant as to what a piece of junk the bike is. And after you do that for a month...finally take it to the shop. LOL! : )

It's under warranty, so I don't blame you for just taking it to the shop, but in the past when I've had coolant leaks (on Japanese bikes....I know...hard to believe) 9 times out of 10 it's been a loose clamp or a hose that wasn't pushed on the fitting all the way.

The last leak I had on my Gixxer turned out to be a bad water pump seal. Oh wait, couldn't be....Buells are the only bikes that break, right?

Oh Shoot you mean that was moonshine under the bike! hell I going to park it and use it for a still!

No Thats why I kept the X1 and went into debit I was WELL AWARE that there could be problems,

the wrecker is going to the house to pick up the bike so far the repair bill is 45$ [ towing ] the bike is under warranty till 2011 if its like the X1 at all it will be well sorted by then. }

Chad if it will make you feel better I will rant, gimme that @$%@$%@#$%@#$%@#$% Note book !@#$@$!$!@#$@$% SOB

dont crap on my friends for things that they have no control over ...

In discussion with the local shop I told them that I have a bike to ride and that if the repair took a couple of weeks that I was ok with that, I wanted them to take there time with it so there were no further problems.

Like you I bet its a hose but I could not see the source, after looking over the manual I ams speculating thermostat related but I could not see in there to be sure.

That X1 is a sweet bike. I would have liked to have thrown a leg over it.

An X1 was the first Buell I ever rode. I had LOTS of misconceptions about them that all went away as the front end pointed skyward as I let the clutch out like I would on my BMW.

Sorry OLDOG you can't be 1st... Mine had a leak early on in ownership. Mine would put out a very light mist when it got really hot (spirited riding). turned out to be a pin size hole in radiator. Hopefully yours is something quite minor. with the puddle you are on the right track looking at hose/gasket.
Good luck.

I've owned a bunch of bikes, and all of them have had something go wrong at some point.

I'm sure things will get straightened out for ya and you'll be back on the road in no time.

My CR is getting work done next week.....a new rear tire. : )

I assume the tire change procedure will be similar to the Uly. Looks like I won't have to remove the rear caliper though. Might be wrong. I'll see next week. Gotta review the service manual to make sure there are no gotchas.

FSM Calls for removal of the caliper.
My issue is supporting the machine

I had a coolant leak (self-induced) as I loosened one of the clamps in the left pod. It acted like a one-use only clamp as it never sealed correctly after that. Replaced the clamp with a screw tight type and it worked great.

Looks like I won't have to remove the rear caliper though.

I would like to see the technique to remove the rear w/o removing the caliper. I understand it can be done. We did a tire change last week and had to remove the caliper. The only way I can see is possibly deflating the tire and pushing the sidewall in for clearance?

Mine leaked a little from the left side as well , a few drops on the stator cover . Then it stopped and has not leaked since !
