I'm thinking I could drop the forks in the triples... and I still have the stock spring from the rear shock off my Firebolt before I put the race stuff on it... Just some thoughts.... |

You can't drop the forks unless you put bar risers on it (available from site sponsor Precision Engineering) as the fork tubes will hit the handlebars. You might be able to shave the seat foam a little to lower the seating surface. |

I think GOTJ did his using a Lightning rear shock assembly. He had some posts about it a couple of years ago. |

Is it safe to do this? I raised them until they are flush on my XB12R. It is the bike I raced for a couple of years and it helped a ton in the turns. My bike quit "pushing" in the turns I had no problems with it at triple digit speeds so I would say you will be good to go |

Dropping the forks in the triples (shortening the forks in a sense) will increase the head angle...this will probably cause the bike to handle differently. Be careful...not too sure it will be a handling improvement! Rather than mess with that, have you tried dialing-in the front and rear preload to the lowest settings for her weight? That included with the low seat might get ya there. (Message edited by smac on October 01, 2009) |

You might see if HyperPro has a spring set for the XT. I know they have one for the X. |

Wolf how long has she been riding? Maybe longer than me.... She is a MSF/Riders Edge Instructor and has done trackdays.... so her riding ability isn't in question... Her driveway is all gravel and it gets kinda tricky for her when it comes time to stop. If her feet slipped a little bit, it could be all bad..... "Help I've fallen and I can't get the Uly off me".... kinda thing |

How tall is she? Why I'm asking is because when I got my Uly, its a 2007 with the 31.? seat height I was terrified to ride it but wanted it sooooo bad! I'm 5'7" tall my inseam is 30 so I do one foot stops and still have a little anxiety on where a ride might wind up, like on a sloped parking lot. I have 20,000 miles on it and have had it for 2 years. when I picked up the bike to take home the first day I took all of the hard luggage off because it was windy and I thought the wind would blow me over. then I would hold my breath during stops because I was not used to one foot stops and the bike would tilt back and forth during the red light. I was so afraid of dropping it during the first 6 months, I was riding the X1 more. I went to Touratech and bought the oil cooler guard, thicker foot pegs and then got sliders for both axels. went to the Buell dealer and bought the extra parts like gear shift linkage and peg, rear brake, and the hand levers in case I did fall I would have the parts right away. I took the Uly seat and shaved some of the middle padding away to give me another 1/2 inch of my foot on the ground. I wore thicker sole shoes too. Is she gonna be on Bad web what I'm leading to is once she gets used to the bike all the money she has spent will be extra coming out of her pocket. The more miles she puts on it the more comfortable she will feel. And this bike is more stable than the city cross doing the ERCs. Connect me with her I would love to chat maybe she is on Facebook there are not that many women who ride the uly. And my drive way is gravel too I was terrified of riding it up into my garage but she will learn her favorite parts of the driveway like I did. K |

I have a 30" inseam and have no problems getting both feet on the ground. Switching out the tires to Scorpion Syncs makes a world of difference on gravel. I also found them to be a better street tire than the Stradas. Shaving the sides of the seat to narrow it will get the ground closer to the bottoms of her feet without hardening the ride. |

I love the Syncs too! When I got my seat shaved the guy , Jonny Lingo, he took the seat off and had me straddle the bike, bad thing is the seat is right on the frame and there is very little to shave off to make a difference. Later on I tried a lower seat and it was taller on my bike than the stock one shaved. I have the XB12X. For the MSF female rider coach, my strategy was to spend little and ride it and if I still felt uncomfortable with the height I would spend more to lower it, but I never had to do it and I was glad I never wasted the money. I traveled on it to the RE Memphis CIW. Lake Park Georgia, and Colorado this year. And the only thing I want to do to it now is swap out the triple tree clamps so I can really push it down in the MSF U-turn area and do super tight circles I am going to the next RE CIW in Milwaukee next year with the ULY. It will be my 10th anniversery for teaching with HD. K |

If she's not into canyon racing you can back the preload to "zero" front and rear and set the compression dampening to full soft, front and rear. This will let the bike settle some on it's suspension and it will still handle fine. I'm 5'7", 30" inseam, 160 lbs and this is how I ride my '08 Uly. Oh, you should also soften the rebound front and rear. I'm at 2 turns out, front, and 23/4 turns out, rear. If she doesn't like it, just reset it. The suspension takes a while to break in too. |

I've swapped fork legs and shocks between different S and R models to accomodate height challenged riders. We put a set of Scg legs and shock on a 12R for a customer and it worked out very well. I would think that you could use the 12Ss suspension parts since the bikes share the same basic frame. Without looking up part numbers, you might be able to change the springs and fork lowers in the front and the shock spring in the rear, or you could change out the front legs and rear shock as an asembly.I'd have to look and measure to see if you would need to change the trees. Maybe there's someone here who would do some trading? |

Scooch up in the saddle. When I want to freak out people at traffick lights I sit back and dangle my feet so I am on my tippy toes, but when I want ot get serious I rid up on the airbox and I have plenty of foot on the ground. |

Wolf you can drop in the rear shock off a 06 SS, it will bolt right up. Only down side is no adjuster knob. I happen to know someone that would be interested in lifting their SS |

I always ride up on the airbox. I could ride three people on mine if I had another set of pegs. |
