NADA didn't list 08' XT. From what I have been seeing these values are too high even though they are RETAIL (dealer) values. 06 ULY http://www.nadaguides.com/default.aspx?LI=1-23-38- 5697-0-0-0&l=1&w=23&p=38&f=5698&m=0042&d=120001890 4&y=2006&ml=B&gc=MC>c=MC 07 ULY http://www.nadaguides.com/default.aspx?LI=1-23-38- 5697-0-0-0&l=1&w=23&p=38&f=5698&m=0042&d=120002056 4&y=2007&ml=B&gc=MC>c=MC 08 ULY http://www.nadaguides.com/default.aspx?LI=1-23-38- 5697-0-0-0&l=1&w=23&p=38&f=5698&m=0042&d=120002201 3&y=2008&ml=B&gc=MC>c=MC 09 ULY http://www.nadaguides.com/default.aspx?LI=1-23-38- 5697-0-0-0&l=1&w=23&p=38&f=5698&m=0042&d=120002409 2&y=2009&ml=B&gc=MC>c=MC 09 XT http://www.nadaguides.com/default.aspx?LI=1-23-38- 5697-0-0-0&l=1&w=23&p=38&f=5698&m=0042&d=120002409 3&y=2009&ml=B&gc=MC>c=MC |

Thank God my insurance company doesn't read these. The adjuster offered me $8000.00 for my '06 Uly that got wrecked back in May. I reminded him that my policy also covered up to $3000 of accessories and I had bags and a few other goodies. He then countered with an offer for $8600.00 and I said "OK". |

If my insurance company would give me 8600.00 for my 06, I would go out and crash it right now. |

My Uly went from $11,000 in the Fall of '07 to $5,500 in the Fall of '09... two years and a 50% depreciation. It cost me $2,750 per year to ride my Uly 5,000 miles per year...or $0.55 per mile. Now add in insurance, maintenance, tires, fuel and riding gear... oh yeah, and the 'farkles'... I'd rather not add it all up. . |

YIKES! Ya can't run the spread sheets on these things!! Can cause all sorts of psychological complications. It's like my last boat - 18' Boston Whaler, 115hp, 6hp kicker, Galv trailer, 2K worth of gear & electronics: about $22K total - sold 3 years later for 12K. Only 10 fishing days & about 30 Salmon caught over 3 years, ave wt about 10 lbs (mix of King & Coho) = $10K / 300 lbs = $35/lb...doesn't include fuel. But did get to play capt Ahab (or Quigg, depending on crew) This was back when Salmon was selling for 3.99/lb. No Salmon with the Uly, but caught lots of trout...only smaller. About 40$/lb I figure...and released all of 'em. Do love this kind of recreational insanity though. |

There was a thread a while back on this same topic. Some were writing that the Uly is no worse or better than other bikes when it comes to depreciation. Anyone care to do the grunt work to compare a couple other models. Say a V-Strom and a GS? |

I guess the lesson to be learned here ( as if it needs pointing out) is that used bikes are a way better value than brand new. But then again, for those of us that bought the first year 06' ULY new when they came out, we are the pioneers for this model. If it wasn't for us, the ULY would be no more. That being said, I'll leave it up to others to carry on that NEW bike tradition. If I want to buy a 2010 it won't be until at least 2012 and it'll probably have some miles on it. It is always very interesting to lay out these facts and figures of depreciation, and how they quickly squash the lust for a brand new bike. |

""I guess the lesson to be learned here ( as if it needs pointing out) is that used bikes are a way better value than brand new"" But used bikes don't have that 'new bike smell'. . |

Most of these "NEW" bikes have so many different butts trying them out to get them sold that they qualify for fumigation. |

Something . . . . of course . . . . we ALL knew when we bought our bikes. Hell, I knew it when I bought my NEW Chevy Vega in 1970.

Yea but you can't be the first one on your block with a new model if you wait 4 years. Also by then its not worth owning anymore, as the then current model will have 50% more power, twice as many valves and nice fancy pods |

what I can't figure out is how Harley-Davidson motorcycles seem to gain in value. I'm always seeing used ones that are priced higher than they sold for brand new! I run into this all the time! |

They don't sell for asking price anymore. What difference a couple of years made. The useful accessories get near full value, but the Bling (Harleyese for Farkle) is about 10 cents on the dollar. |

>>>They don't sell for asking price anymore. But since 1987 I've listened to folks opine "this can't last forever". To Harley-Davidson's credit . . . . . they hung in there as one of America's most profitable companies in history for nearly a quarter century. I'm very interested to see how they reinvent themselves. There is great opportunity at this time. It is nothing like what they had 10 years ago. I'm eager to see if they can recognize and capitalize on it or if they are too set in their ways of doing things. Erik Buell has a clear vision of the future. |

87' is when I bought Harley shares. Still have them. Buell's story reminds me of Harley's, both started out building bikes in a shed. |

Whats the value on a CityX ridden like a ULY? ....wait for it.... PRICELESS. I never bought the bike for resale, that is a loosing proposition. I really did buy it thinking it would be the last New bike I buy. And with the abuse I put it through, nobody would ever buy it used! I have a named amount policy for replacement at 12k for it. Damn the underwriters, thats what it would take me to duplicate and purchase a new one. |
