So... How can I jack my bike without the stock muffler on it? I think I have a loose steering head bearing, so my front stand won't do the trick for this. I'm hesitant to jack right on the engine, even though that's where the stock exhaust bolts up... don't want to crack anything. Hoisting it up from rafters in the ceiling is not an option for me - no rafters. Ideas? | ||

BTW - I have a rear stand, so all I need is something to get the front off the ground since I can get the rear up and stable no problem. | ||

There are front stands from people like pit bull and lockhart phillips that will work no problem for changing front tires | ||

Engine hoist... good thinking. I was able to get a small block of wood on the bosses for the front muffler mount - I figured if that's where the muffler mounted, then it has to support the bike when jacked. Aside from just being a very unstable solution, it did work. BTW - turns out the steering head bearings are fine, the noise, confirmed by my suspicions and the comments from others here is the front end clunk is actually internal to the forks and considered "normal" by Buell. | ||

Xl, can you say a little more about the "normal" part? I have just begun noticing a slight noise --- more like a "tap" than a clunk --- when the forks compress hard (such as under hard braking). Can you refer me to any info that I can read up on it? Thanks! | ||

I'm interested in this as well. Recently changed front tire and now noticed a snapping type noise from the front under hard braking. I've been chasing this for a while checking and rechecking axle torque, caliper bolts, triple tree bolts and still hear it. | ||

Do a search on "front end clunk", lots of threads will come up. I can it to make the noise everytime by bouncing on the bars. I can hear a pair of clicks very close together. I tried putting a hand on the top and bottom triple clamps but felt nothing moving at all. If you hear this noise, the first thing you need to check is the neck bearings. You need to jack the bike up and take the weight off the front end (a front stand will not work for this). Make sure the steering head moves freely, and yank on the tire in all directions. I moved it front to back, side to side and up and down and was not able to replicate the sound I was hearing. The neck bearings were fine. I did some more research on here and found that a few people have gone to the dealer for this and after verifying the neck bearings are in adjustment, Buell responds that a noise in the forks is considered normal. So I'm no longer worried. | ||

I don't know about jacking the bike up with aftermarket exhaust... didn't really know where to jack it up on the stock exhaust. I ended up putting a dent in the front bulge of the stock exhaust by jacking it up from there. DON'T Do that unless you are okay with he dent. As far as the procedure goes concerning neck bearing re-torque on the 1125R, do a search for a thread I made about installing the GPR damper. "How-to, DIY, GPR, install," should be some good key words, on top of the fact that I authored the thread. I included a good set of pictures and the directions I listed for installing the GPR damper are the same as the neck bearing torque procedure, since I incorporated that job into the task of installing the GPR. I still hear a little noise when compressing the front forks (probably the fork noise Xl1200r just referred to), but the very noticeable click/snap under heavy front braking is gone after doing this. --Kevin (Message edited by Torquaholic on September 22, 2009) (Message edited by Torquaholic on September 22, 2009) | ||

For the front end klunk: Loosen and then retorque the steering head assembly to spec. | ||

Where are the stock jack points? I went digging in the manuals and digging in the old threads and couldn't find any pics. ac | ||

Stock jack points are just under the muffler. |
