How many people can claim this saves belts? To be honest, I don't know too many people with 06+ failures. For the trouble Buell went through to develop the belt drive, I'm surprised they didn't incorporate this. It wouldn't raise the price of the bike detrimentally - if the part was required. I'd like to know how the belt drive's resonance is affected by this. It seems most people buy these and can't give me a straight answer and what they like so much. So, I'm not trying to start a fight, but what is so attractive about this (aside from maintenance)? | ||

I've read it makes no sense and the factory one works just fine........blah blah I don't think so. In MY head, the constant spring tension means less of a harsh rotation with any suspension movement. I could go into more details, but this horse has been beatin to death :-) personally, I like mine and feel it's a good investment. | ||

serp belt on a car has tensioner. they can run over 100k before it breaks.i am sure it makes the xb belt last longer, and if u make a bar for leverage,you can replace by removing the swingarm piece and the cover and nothing else. sounds like a better idea to me. | ||

In MY head, the constant spring tension means less of a harsh rotation with any suspension movement. The constant spring tension of the tensioner does not mean the belt tension will be constant. Unlike a cars serpentine belt as the suspension moves the belt geometry changes. As this geometry changes the force that the spring loaded tensioner imparts on the belt is constant, shifting the magnitude of the belt tension but not holding it constant. The force imparted on the belt by a fixed tensioner is not constant as the geometry changes (it will be less as the belt tightens at the top of suspension travel and more as it slackens out at the bottom), theoretically allowing the belt tension to remain approximately constant. It would be interesting to see a full proper analysis done on both. I know one has had a full analysis done.... (Message edited by Nik on September 16, 2009) | ||

That car tensioner also underwent a ton of dynamic analysis...resonance is nothing to mess with. Might not be a problem here, but just saying. There ARE some pretty big differences between the two. I guess I'd like to see some sort of testing. I've thought about this thing for years and never found any conclusive data either way. Most of what I read are based o 'feelings'. Nothing wrong with that I suppose, just not how I personally base my modifications. | ||

Love mine, have had it for years now. Don't really care about the data, it gives me some peace of mind that my belt will last longer. I think it looks GREAT and I like the concept. I haven't see 1 negative comment from someone that actually owned one. Just negative comments from those who haven't. Different strokes for different folks I suppose. | ||

No one in the US I know of. But ordering through Trojan is much easier then I expected!!! Actually, only difference was the extra 2 days in the mail versus a US company. I HIGHLY suggest Trojan! -Robert www.xblights.com |
