I'm in, just acquired an 04 XB12S, got the black plastics also. First mod, probably the tuono mirrors or bar ends.

Congrats on a beautiful, CLEAN bike. Love love love those colors. Smart mods: exhaust, frame pucks. Suggest axle sliders to protect fork/swingarm in case of tip-over/slide. Same idea as the frame pucks: cheap insurance protection for expensive metal parts. I love my bar end mirrors - rock steady, cool looking. http://darkhorsemoto.com/html/ecosliders_1.html Give the bike a good once-over to establish a new base-line for you as new owner: it looks immaculately maintained, but it has enough years on it for older stuff to be worth looking at, like bearings, '04 belt, battery, plus just basic maintenance items so you know exactly what was done when, and how. Congrats again - super bike. (Message edited by fahren on September 13, 2009) |

Welcome aboard. Very nice looking bike you have there. +1 on the axle sliders. They are worth more than their weight in gold. If you havn't already picked up a service manual, get one. A parts book is good to have as well. On the subject of mirrors: If you don't do any lane splitting, bar ends are great. I have the tuono mirrors on my cg and they give me a much better field of view behind me. They also vibrate much less. At 3K rpms & up I get a very clear image of what's behind me. And they look a lot better than the stock lolipops to boot. |

Don't worry, I am keeping all the extras. I'll probably never go black, but it's there if I want it. You guys won't believe how long I've been a member here as an owner of a speed triple (which I traded for this)I could only lurk. I new I would own one someday, it was on my list. Thank's for the welcome, even though I probably did my intro in the wrong topic section. This was misterX bike, I think he stays on another forum most of the time. |

I would check to see if the ECM is a race ECM. You can tell by finding the ECM under the seat. If it does not say "for race use" then check the serial number with your dealer. The reason I say that is your pipes look more blue than usual, which could indicate a lean condition caused by using the Buell race pipe and the stock ECM. If you do get a new ECM you will need to do a Throttle Position Sensor, (TPS) reset as well. Most Buell dealers and some specialists Buell shops can do that in about 15 minutes. The normal Buell race pipe set up is a K+N filter, the Race ECM and the race pipe. Check to see if you have all three. |

Gentleman jon, I'll check that. The PO did state that the other PO used steel wool or something on the pipes trying to clean them. That may have something to do with the color. |

Great looking bike! Axle sliders, different mirrors, sure. But for the rest, don't second-guess genius. |

Clark, Polishing the pipes won't make them turn blue. Here are my pipes after about 15,000 miles.
On a properly running engine, the pipes turn silver when polished, then gradually turn to gold, darker near the exhaust port. You may notice one or two other mods. The are all listed in my profile. |
