This has happened to me a few times now. I'm riding along at about 80 - 85 MPH in fifth gear (4,000 RPM or so) and my check engine light comes on for a few seconds. The light is on for 2 to 15 seconds, then goes out. Nothing else happens. The bike runs fine before, during and after. Any Ideas? |

Check this thread Engine trouble light occilation http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/477691.html?1252826667 Vern(Etennuly) had this happening.. he documents all his steps to figure out and finally fix it. He ended replacing his ECM and his Engine temp sensor... but the skip/part thing really looks to be related to the sensor. After pulling the old sensor, he found the wire was damaged. I had this happen a few times after I rotated the engine ... I went back in a checked/re-cleaned the connection for the ETS.. that corrected mine. So, check the wiring for the ETS..the connection and the actual wire as it can get chaffed. (Message edited by gamdh on September 13, 2009) |

Hey Crusty! Have you checked for codes? I would do that first. Then check all the grounds. If it gives you a code, it is imperative to go through the flow chart in the SM before scrapping parts. Intermittent's can be a ball froster! Mine gave me false codes, or set off codes other that what should have been for the actual problem, I believe, due to the ETS intermittent failure giving the ECM bad information. And then there was the list of wire problems. Wires fixed, replaced ECM(used), replaced new ETS, installed comfort kit, tested, tested, tested. I will say, I was glad to have found and fixed all of the wire problems before replacing the ETS and or the ECM. Not having it work that way would have lead to continued problems and failures. I also believe that my ETS was compromised and showed it's first sign of failure when the bike was about six months old. I complained at that time about the first case of FL/R/S on a 70 mph up hill interstate run. They of course could not replicate the problem. It happened again several times over the next year, but not often or predictably. Then about a year ago I found a primary coil wire shorting out. I fixed that and had no problems again for about eight months, then it all got stupid leading to the fix it or put it out of my misery program(I had planned to shoot it an bury it.....deep). I did a 250 mile ride today, and a 100 mile ride yesterday, and a 20 hop last night. The most perfect my bike has run for over two years. I am once again suffering from permagrin. Testing.....all is great, but still testing..... |

Oh yeah, and with the testing out of the way, I would suspect the ETS, either loose, shorted wire, or failed unit. |
