You guys are all forgeting the goal of a racing organization, weather it be AMA, wsbk or moto gp-- MAKE MONEY!!!

I think it's pretty well established that different parts of the world like different types of racing. Look how many times f1 has tried to make a go of it in the states, never being able to make it work long term.

AMA racing had gotten stale to it's core audience, the US market. Dmg has the resources and history to find it's nitche in the US market to put people in the seats and make people want to watch on tv. Once that happens, the sponsors and bike companies will be there. Why do you think Toyota wanted in NASCAR? Too big of market to ignore.

My personal opinion of someone who was a casual racing fan at best is that dmg/AMA nailed it with the daytona sportbike class. The hacking/ elsick battle on day 2 at mid Ohio had the whole place on it's feet cheering for one or the other, while the superbike race was boring with out much emotion from the crowd. Hopefully they can bring the action from the sportbike class into the superbike class over the next few years.

I'm sure dmg has done things they regret now, but trying new things is the only way they'll be able find the winning formula to make big league motorcycle racing viable in the US.

If you want to see good racing go to your local roadrace club and check out the local boys and girls. Much more interesting than AMA Superbike or MotoGP. Also it is cheap to get in, fun to watch and you get very close to the track. MotoGP sucked this weekend...pretty much a parade. 125s were pretty good however.

Daytona Sport Bike was a interesting mix but...I own an 1125R and it should not be with 600s, sorry guys. Now that "Buell" has a year under their belt they need to get the RR ready for Superbike and run hard for the title.

Oh and Blake the comment on two-strokes, obviously you've never ridden a 250 GP bike or you never would have said that, hell an RD400 for that matter....

For all those that are so enamored with EU motorcycle racing, check out the movie "Bottleshock".

Even if you don't get the connection to racing from this movie, you will certainly enjoy the entertainment value.

DMG is packing the stands AND has expressed a willingness to be fluid and flexible to make the competition as fair, run and inclusive as possible.

I have the video I shot of the awards ceremony . . . if Buell were doing anything unfair the competitors didn't get the word. . . each of the top three finishers could have simply compliments Danny . . . .but they went well beyond that talking about their respect for the Buell and Danny's skills and how fun he made the racing.

This is the shot of adrenaline that's been sorely needed . . it's always so depressing to be at Daytona and see 300 folks in the stands . . . the Hacking/ Eslick battle on day 2 at mid Ohio had all the making of Scotty Parker and Chris Carr duking it out to the line in the Sacramento Mile.

I'm already looking for ways to see as many races as possible next year . . . but this Lycra bodysuit seems snug!

Since someone asked, a reputable source at the track sunday evening had the gate totals for the weekend around 40,000

Im glad i was there for it. A weekend I will never forget. Great racing, great friends, great umbrella girls.

76000 at indy for the moto gp sunday according to published reports. i have looked for published attendance at ama/dmg events this year with no success. from the couple of races i have managed to be awake for it appeared that attendance has been down from last year. glad there was a good turnout at NJMP. ama/dmg is what we have to work with here and a larger part of the racing viewers time and money is the apparent goal. best luck to all and GO BUELL RACERS!!

I think that DMG got it right. Even the superbike class has been fun to watch this year. Hayes and Mladin put on some good shows. But with out a doubt the sprotbike class was the one to watch. The Buell was amazing. THe Yammy kids ran their asses off. Hacking was there for a while. Knapp came out of nowhere. Cardenas is truly one to watch. On any given day we could have had a different winner. Fong, Fillmore, Paris, Knapp, the list goes on. And how about 5 different makes in the top 10? When has that ever happened? Simply the best year of racing we have had in a long time.

O the negativity this series has bread. The biggest reason for this is DMG pissed off most of the Japanese manufactures in particular Honda, the evil empire has been behind most of the bad things that have been said about DMG since the before the beginning of the season.
MATT if you don't think Honda pushes their weight around why pray tell do you think MOTO 2 has Honda engines I really doubt they were the low bidder.
Do I think DMG was perfect NO I think in several places they screwed up horridly bad.

MATT if you don't think Honda pushes their weight around why pray tell do you think MOTO 2 has Honda engines I really doubt they were the low bidder.

I know that Honda are the worst offenders in trying to 'bend' rules to suit themselves, and have been doing it for years. It was Honda who started themove from 500cc 2 strokes to the 990 era, and it was Honda who pushed for 800cc bikes too (because they thought they had a worldbeating 800cc engine, how wrong they were!), which of proved to be a mistake on their part.

Honda have tried to get rid of the 250cc two strokes for years, but only since Aprilia started to beat them of course. Before that they were perfectly happy to take part and supply most of the grid with bikes.

The problem for the MotoGP organisers now is that Honda play such a major part in the series that nobody wants to upset them just in case they decide to take their toys home and sulk. If Honda pulled out of MotoGP (and they have done it before) the series would be inevitably doomed as they supply almost half of the grid (more next year!).

It was pretty obvious to me (and most onlookers) that when the decision was made to go for the single engine rule in Moto2 that Honda would get the contract. It had an air of inevitability about it.

Kawasaki were the favourites for the engine contract as they don't supply MotoGP so were seen to be somewhat independant. However we shall never know just what went on behind the scenes to scupper this : )

I won't buy a Honda of any description, ever. I'm sure that they won't notice my little private protest bt it makes me feel better ; )

Hellgate sez:

The proof was in the pudding...the basically stock 1125R was a perfect match for the modified 600's. It made for the best racing in the world, your opinion not withstanding.

Don't get caught in the "displacement is the only measure" mind trap . . . be mindful my Ford pickup has nearly 3 times the displacement of an Indy car.

The objective of the series was to lend parity to the competitors, not see who has what size motor.

Judging from finishes separated by 0.006 seconds . . . I'd say they excelled.
