This afternoon I picked my daughter up at school and went to open one of my cases. I couldn't get the latch to come up. I opened the other side and looked at both. It seems that one of them simply isn't lifting up properly. Is this what happens when people are reporting "broken" latches? I found I could gently "force" it upwards and open the side bag, but I really don't want to do this. Anybody "repair" their latch? I'm wondering if I should take the latch apart at this point. I've had two failures. One was a complete separation upon opening. The other gave warning. If the latch is failing, you'll notice a fracture line in the plastic at the hinge point. |

Mine is doing the same thing. I have to pull the handle out a couple of times and it pops up. Been doing that for a while, hasn't got any worse, YET. |

>>>Anybody "repair" their latch? Yes. I've repaired several. They are cheap and can be completely repaired in less than 5 minutes. If I had the Journeyman luggage I'd always have a spare pair with me. Call me cautious. |

Here is what I've found. Tootal, might be worth looking into... take out the latch (two screws inside the bag), I found that one of the plastic parts that attaches to the latches had broke. It was causing the unit to hang up and not go up all the way. I put some JB Weld on it for now. I'll see if that holds. I'll order a new latch. Anybody got the service part number for it? Wayne |

I bet that JB weld is better than original. Perhaps it would be a good preventative measure. |

My first latches broke long ago, then one of the new ones started doing that. In my case I took it off the bag and found a small pebble lodged in the works. Since then one of the latches broke but here this time:
I put it back together with JB Weld...
... but it broke again last week at the rings this time. JB Welded the rings back on with some little washers in there too so it's working again, for now. I think I've finally thought of a permanent fix though, I'll post it eventually if I get around to doing it. |

I have gone through 3 latches in the last few months. I have a 4th on the way out right now. Someone needs to come up with a metal replacement! I always keep a spare latch "in stock" now. As a matter of fact I keep one in the bag so it can be replaced at any time. There has to be a solution out there somewhere. |

Ejiii, how are you closing the lids? Breaking 3 latches shouldn't happen, unless all 3 were different bags and all the original latch design. |
