I replaced my back tire a few months back before my car accident...The bike sat for a while but it was inside. I was just wondering if this is normal wear and if its safe to ride on? The tire probably only has 1500-2000 miles on it.

It looks like you were riding with under inflated tires. |

I have since checked the inflation, but is the tire still good to ride on? |

You've turned a 5,000 mile tire into trash(but don't feel bad, its actually quite easy to do). The tread will show in less than 400 miles. Is it safe? Yes, for a little bit, provided road temp is below 85, tire pressure is correct, you aren't carrying any loads, and your suspension is setup properly. Don't race/trackday it. Don't flog it. Have a new tire in the garage or pickup truck. (Message edited by CLARKJW on August 27, 2009) |

the only way to destroy a tire like that in only 2500 miles is running with 0 pressure in it.. and, no, it's unsafe. |

Actually, I'd be more inclined to believe it was over-inflated and only ridden on the highway without hitting any twisties at all. |

I rode a Dunlop D207 once until the cords were showing in the middle. I wouldn't do it again unless in an emergency. |

Take it to the track and beat the crap out of it. Yoyr center is trash, but your edges have atleast 2-3 track days left in them! |

Just my OPINION & YMMV, but when you can see cords, it's time to get a new tire. |

146HP and nearly no rubber where it's used the most. I'd ride it to the shop to have the new one put on and not a foot further. |

Time to take this one to a nice warm patch of ashphalt and place bike in first gear and let the rear tire warm up the afternoon air with repeated rotation whiles staying in same location PS this will work in Evening also! It's done, give it the proper send off. |

I would guess overinflated, since there's such a thin area of wear. I'd also guess not more than 100 miles before the cords show through, and probably less. |

It's unanimous - Give that tire a proper sendoff. Stop spinning as soon as it pops tho, the steel belts will tear things up a bit.

That tire has to have a few burn outs on it. You say the pressure has been corrected, what was it?? |

Dalton_gang, that looks kinda like the service entrance for Gateway H-D on Lemay-Ferry. How much did they get you for on the tire after that one? (Message edited by d_adams on August 28, 2009) |

Just replaced my back tire looked exactly like that after 4500 mi with not a single burn out on it and 2 lbs. less pressure than the manual recommends. Made me grin though blew it out the next day in the drive.I would'nt ride it with cords showing. |
