anybody got an alternative way to install the chin fairing on the M2 without buying the kit from American Sport Bike? |

If you had the PART NUMBERS for all the CHIN FARING PARTS the LOCAL HARLEY-DAVIDSON STEALER that sells BUELLs could order them for you ... |

Buell part kit was on the expensive side from what I recall. I fabricated three different angled brackets connecting the right side hole to the 1/4" bolt on the dampener bracket and all of them snapped where I made the bend on the bottom. I've been running mine with just the two bolts on the rear sprocket brace and the bolt and shift bolts on the left side. Fairing material is pretty tough and it's held up for 15K miles so far. Oh, on my 2002 I had to file out the hole on the shift bolt hole to match that metal spacer. That applies to the newer shift linkage set ups only. A friend said that you don't need any brackets since the X1s are so fast and the air flow keeps the fairing in place LOL! Safe ride, Gary in Oaktown |

I didn't buy the kit, because I have the Banke shifter/brake pedals, and couple of the kit bolts aren't used. I bought the individual parts from Vallejo H-D. They didn't have anything in stock, had to order, and come back two weeks later. Wound up being just about the same as the American Sport Bike kit, even with fewer bolts. Plus I had to pay $4 bridge toll (twice) to pick it up. If I were doing it again, I'd just buy the kit from American Sport Bike. And my front bent tab snapped also. When I replaced it I put the hydraulic jack in the wrong spot, when I pulled out the front shock bolt, the rear end came down, broke my new American Sport Bike carbon hugger. What fun. I keep thinking there's a better place to bolt that tab to on the frame somewhere, but haven't figured it out yet. At least the little tab bracket is still available, I think it was like $12 though. |
