I think I'm becoming obsessed with HUDs. And I can't find one out there. The closest I've found is the SportVue but do they even sell it anymore? So, here is an idea for someone who is much more intelligent then I am, and has access to resources. There is a lot of talk lately about OLED and LCD technology and how it is becoming cheaper to produce and ever thinner in its design. We've seen the SportVue and how it is somewhat ungainly. How about a very thin sheet of plastic, consisting of an OLED/LED design that lays across our visors like temporary tinting? It could be powered in several ways; the simplest I can think of would be to use a battery compartment consisting of two CR-type batteries stored under the padding inside the helmet. That being said, a few of the issues I see at the start. One, how to transmit the data via wireless. Two, if using GPS for velocity reading, where to put the module (cell phones technology has shown us how small the GPS unit can be). I have a some ideas how to overcome some of it, but again, I'm not in a position to act on any of this. So, here is hoping that this thread goes from a philosophical discussion to an actual viable heads up display we can all use. Sooner than later? God knows I'd pay good money for it. |
