friend just called to see what year my bike is. He told me there is a recall on the 2004 12Rs and 12Ss

trouble can cause bike to stall, shutting off engine if horn wire becomes frayed and shorts out

or something to this effect.

SafetyAlerts
February 24, 2004
Buell Motorcycle Has Recalled the 2004 Buell XCB12S

(SafetyAlerts) - The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced.

Buell Motorcycle Company Models: Buell XCB12S Year: 2004
Buell XB9S Year: 2004
Buell XB9SL Year: 2004

Number Potentially Involved: 581

Dates of Manufacture: June - August 2003

Defect: On certain motorcycles, the wire that provides power to the horn, due to misrouting, can become frayed from contact with the horn bracket mounting bolt. As a result, the horn wire may become exposed, and when the horn button is pushed, either the horn circuit fuse or the key switch fuse can blow. If the key switch fuse blows, the vehicle can stall, which could result in a crash. If the horn fuse blows, there will be a loss of power to the horn and rear brake light.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect and correct the wire routing, if necessary. The manufacturer has reported that owner notification began on December 23, 2003. Owners may contact Buell at 1-414-342-4680.

[NHTSA Recall No. 03V494].

I just put a little piece of rubber vacuum line at the end of the horn bolt and put a zip tie on it.Put some black tape on the horn wire from where it rubbed through, easy fix.

this has been out since dec 19th its nothing new, and it has nothing to do with the R models.

it ain't on the 03's so your good to go.....

this is on "s"'s built between mid june to mid august of 03.....

I will say this if a friend of friend distributes info...that is a grapevine....grapevine translations go wrong.

so this is how shit gets started...

Again for those with R models this is not you

ok I am getting off my soap box and back in my sand box

bads1, i see you put some hose on the protruding screw. an alternative, is to cut the screw down to the minimum required length, reinstall with loctite. i always like to solve a problem with the absolute minimum of material. if i can remove anything extraneous, i am all for it. next thing i want to get rid of is the interactive muffler valve actuator, which i am currently using as a very fancy "check engine light anti-illumination device" regards, dean
