The instrument cluster lens on my bike has a stain on the backside of the glass. To be quite blunt, it looks like someone spit on it and it ran down about 1 1/2". It the daylight, it partially obscures some of the readout on the cluster. My dealer told me Buell won't warranty this because it's normal to have condensation inside the cluster, but this is just ugly. Anyone else have anything similar? |

I had this and Buell did warranty it. In fact, I think Buell would probably be interested in seeing it. Give customer service a call. |

The cluster isn't difficult to remove. Pull the front fly screen, unplug the cluster, remove it, open it up and wipe the "stain" off. |

Several people here have new clusters thanks to the condensation. If you have another dealer close by, have them look at it. If not call BCS. Ft, do you really think people should have to wipe stuff off the inside of sealed gauge cluster?? This is a warranty issue, one that I'd like to have so I can get a gear indicator. |

Thanks! It would be nice to have an '09 cluster. (Message edited by ibppjr on August 22, 2009) |

Ft, do you really think people should have to wipe stuff off the inside of sealed gauge cluster?? Considering there is nothing in a new cluster that would prevent the same condensation issue, yes. The amount of time it would take to remove and correct the situation in YOUR garage is much less than the time it would take to correct the situation in THEIR garage. If the gauge cluster is like that on the XBs, its a rubber seal that joins the halves together. There are a few screws that hold the top and bottom together and getting to the insides is not difficult or perilous. At some point in time, when the bike is out of warranty, you will need to do this yourself. If your dealer will cover it and you are willing to have your bike out of commission while they replace the cluster, by all means have it done. I'm not saying it's NOT a warranty issue. I'm just saying that there are other options. If his local dealer won't cover it and the next nearest that will is a great distance away, it may be easier for him to do it himself. |

Any thoughts of sealing it with some clear silicone or RTV? ac |

You would really want to do that in a zero humidity environment... otherwise the moisture would continue to cycle with temp changes.... R |

Even better would be to fill it with Nitrogen. That is what we do with instruments at work. ac |

So I had this problem as well and it was replaced under warranty...But the new cluster seems to be re-manufactured, I think this because the new cluster has water stains inside the cluster... So let me get this straight...if I remove the cluster, there is a way to disassemble the top half of the housing to clean the inside? |
