TRUE, and the kicker is that in two years or less, it will be obsolete (as a pro cutting edge camera).
I used to shoot medium format too, and I was told that when scanned on the right equipment that a really good 645 neg was the equivalent of 100 mega pixels. Does that make sense? |

It must be pretty nice being Danny Eslick these days. This is just some dynamite racing he is involved in. He obviously is having a ball doing it. It couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
I am going to VIR to watch him do it some more. |

100 mp makes sense. I had a Kodachrome 35 mm scaned on a Heil drum scanner back in the day and it was 80 MB, I regulary get 25 MB out of my 35 mm negatives. These is really an infinite amount of data in film so the digital equivilant is always a compromise. Thats why we keep seeing these hugly expensive pro cameras. |

Yeah, it does,Jimidan .When I scanned simple
35mm stuff in the 'best' resolution I got HUGE files 4-5 mb normals came out to 25-35 mb's and more. I think were breaking the image down to small enough bits so the micro-lens technology and throughput will be next to increase.As far as resolution goes....other than vid display tecnologies,untill we build printers with smaller dot size we really can't print pixel to dot prints without interpolation.Seems like a waste to break it down any further without the output being equal.
Lucky guy , wish I could get away for that! But I will be at Jersey for the final....just bought my tickets. Does anyone live nearby enough to recommend a motel thats inexpensive with free Wi-Fi?
I've brought my Boys to Wildwood years ago and I know there must be some nice places near the water that wont break the bank!

A man named E. Muybridge used a row of trip wire operated cameras to snap a dozen or so photographs of a horse and sulky. People were astonished to see proof that a trotting horse can simultaneously have all four hooves off the ground. The story goes that Muybridge originally did this to win a bet. And the rest, as they say, is history.

I can't take my camera ;-( ...I am riding over on my ol' S2 and camping on-site, so I will have tent and gear to haul. There will be someone else taking shots, for sure, but they won't be ebear quality. You have set the standards petty high around here, ebear!
VIR is my favorite track, as the elevation change is a monster, and the ride over through the mountains is supreme.} |

The stupidity of the magazines publishing this stuff is amazing. Not only do we not know what the power to weight is, but power to weight doesn't remotely tell the story on a roadrace course. There is so much more to a motorcycle than these morons write. I'll list three items and there are many more.
1) Just regarding power to weight, the conclusions of "unfairness" are ridiculous and uneducated. First of all the heavier bike will be at a disadvantage in every area except acceleration. Duh. The power doesn't help going into corners and the extra weight on the identical spec tires hurts braking and in corner speed.
2) Then, the impact of power drops off exponentially with speed when CdA takes over. So a heavy bike with a higher CdA would be slower into and through the corners, quicker once it gets out of the corners but then drop off and likely get passed on the long sraightaways.
3) A high inertia engine is wonderful for street tractability, and great in the wet, as the wheelspin is lazier and more controllable. Hmmm, wonder if that's why there were four Buells in the top ten at Road America in the rain? But crankshaft inertia is a disadvantage on a dry race track in the hands of top pro riders who ride with lots of wheelspin. Where traction is high, greater inertia hurts spin-up speed of the rear tire when setting a bike up to turn with a sliding tire. You can spin it up biut it's less responsive to do quickly, so your best bet is to break it loose early and hard under braking then keep it lit. With spec tires this means your tires will get fried earlier, and your ability to modulate the throttle and spin is slower too. Hmmm, sounds like Danny at Laguna, eh, if you watched the race with an interest in actually seeing what was going on.
4) (I know I said 3 but I had to throw in a bonus, but there are many, many more attributes at play in a motorcycle than these) As we said before, high engine inertia makes a bike mellow on the street as it keeps the bike from being jerky on and off the throttle, keeps dust or water on the road from being as much of a problem. But it makes a bike harder to snap right left through S type turns on a race track. The only way to get through these turns is to short shift and drop the rpm, but then the bike won't accelerate off the corner.
So, what we are seeing is a race class that takes this complexity and differences in motorcycle design into account, and allows rules juggling as more information about the different bikes' performances comes in. And lo and behold, we have a great series, with 6 brands and significantly different types competing for the wins.
These people who are tainting the great racing with truly uneducated "technical" comments like "What about more power" need to go back to school. Yes Danny has an acceleration advantage, but he was nearly ten MPH down on top speed to the Hondas on the long back straight at Road America. Did he whine about that? No. Don't you think it must frustrate him when the lighter bikes can outbrake him and block the smooth line he needs to take to minimize inertia effects, or drive around him in a corner later in a race after his tires are fried? Sure, but he never says "Well I could have won if those other guys weren't allowed lighter bikes" |

Sunday's race was another great one. Anyone who is boycotting the series is missing the best motorcycle racing on the planet right now. This is the best racing I've seen in the AMA in, well, ever. I was actually rooting for Roger Hayden to get a win. The young man has suffered through enough bad luck of late.
Looks like Yamaha is dominating the world in road racing lately. From MotoGP, to WSB, to AMA. Congrats to them. Chaz Davies has apparently been cursed. Did he piss off Rossi?  I hope that team gets their act together for the last round and gives the kid a bike that can compete for a win. |

Buell got incredible grief for the fairing incident at Daytona. IMO, the shifter malfunction in BOTH Superpole and the Race 1 the following day is WAY more embarrassing than having some aftermarket fairing rip off. |

Just watched the race Sunday again, that's three times watching laps 12 to 10 and seeing some of the best racing I have seen.
To the naysayers who do not watch DSB ... you are missing some of the best racing there is!
Danny rode that thing to the ragged edge, the semi-get off and recovery to place second for sure optimized the pucker factor!
I will be there on the 4th... could not live with myself if I missed it!

That's an accurate statement . . . that kid rides the WHEELS off that bike. I think I said, following his first race, that he and that Buell become one and he has total command and control of the bike.

It was fun to watch the race in person. You get so much more perspective on how good Danny really is. We were all standing in turn four where Danny was making as much as two bike lengths from three to four a lap and then put the move on Knapp going into four and then on a couple of more through the grass in turn 6. Very impressive to watch him in person. |
