The subject line pretty much says it all. I will outline my scenario so bear with me. A number of months ago this began happening. I'd go for a ride, stop some place, come back out and try to start my bike and it wouldn't even turn over. The lights all came on, everything looked good, but no click, no noise, no turn over. The only thing I could see is it would briefly make the speedometer needle jump. The first time this happened I was able to get it to turn over after a couple minutes of trying. The second time it happened, I gave up trying to get it to turn over and let it sit for a number of hours. Come back later try and start it and everything worked fine. Happened again a little while later and my dad and I replaced the starter relay and battery, thinking maybe those could be it. Had no problems for a couple months. Well it's been a month or two and just today it happened again. I stopped at a gas station to fill up, came back outside after paying and the bike would not turn over. This all seems very random and we are not entirely sure what the culprit could be. We discovered today that the little tip of the spark plug was unscrewed, but reattaching this firmly did not have any effect on getting the bike to turn over. We went to town for a couple of hours, came back with another starter relay and decided to try starting it again before replacing the relay -- and it turned over just fine, seems fine. Does this sound familiar? Any leading ideas of what the issue might be? This kind of thing is very hard to troubleshoot when it is working! Thanks |

Welcome Isolder! Doesnt sound familiar (except when I would forget about pulling in the clutch or turning on the handlebar on/off switch when starting). Pushing the starter button produces no sound whatsoever? If there isnt any sound I would suspect a handlebar starter switch. The second would be a bad clutch safety switch (flip the diode). Third could be a bad solenoid, but it usually at least makes some noise. A loose main ground strap could cause this (look up near the front engine mount). Manually engaging the starter/solenoid would tell you if either or both are working properly. While I suspect it is fairly simple to do (removing the airbox might help) I havent had to do this yet on a Blast. Clutch diode flip: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/201 64/55319.html This will enable your Blast to start without pulling in the clutch. (BE CAREFUL). |

neutral safety switch sticking at clutch lever,you just touch it and most times it snaps back out. |

Yes, it was that blasted safety switch. We figured it a week ago and I hadn't gotten to post my results back here. That safety switch. We replaced a lot of parts months ago trying to solve this problem.. and it ends up being this little thing. Thanks guys. |

Never replace that clutch switch. The way to fix it is to pull it all the way in with your thumbnail or something, then let it click past. You may have to do this a few times, but it seems to stop being an issue after doing that a few times. |
