Do you guys oil the filter ala K&N? Somehow, most of the pictures seem to show a white/gray filter color not the oiled reddish color. Thanks. |

I oil mine. It seems to fade pretty quickly, though, and I'm usually behind in maintaining it. Maybe I'm not the only one? |

I do keep mine oiled as well but was just wondering. It does require more frequent intervals due to exposure to the elements, specially the sun causing the top side to fade much faster than the bottom. Thanks for responses. |

I noticed my k&n did the same thing at the top of it. The bike was sucking the oil out of it. I switched to a force winder filter and it was much much better. |

Mine is a FW OEM filter and still loses more oil on top. I blamed it on the sun. |

Rain will rinse it out too. When I used to have the breather through there, the oil mist and water vapors would displace the pink too. (as well as paint my right leg grey) The recharge kits work well and last a long time. |

The recharge kits work well and last a long time A couple weeks? It's always the top on mine that goes first, too. I always assumed it was the airflow. The exposure to the sun makes more sense. Just happy to know it's not just me....}} |

Nate, I have been told it is not a good idea to ride in the rain with the filter exposed. I think a good bit of moisture gets in the intake tract through the filter. I don't know first hand since I am a chicken and go out of my way not to ride when there is a chance of rain. You need to put the "sock" on it if you ride during rain. |

My bike would always run fine in the rain. If it was outright poring, some would sputter its way in but no hydro-lock amounts. I generally ride with the sock most of the time anyways. |

Mine still looks grey, even when I re-oil it. Should it go back to pink? |

May be you don't put enough oil on yours. Mine was grey when I bought it used but it turned the red/pink color as soon as I oiled it (the K&N spay on oil). I oil the lower part of the filter every other time I oil the top portion to maintain a consistent color. It does turn pink/red right away. |

You have to apply the detergent stuff and clean it in water before oiling it again! There is no point to adding oil to it if it's grey. When clean, the filter is WHITE. |

I have washed it a couple of times before oiling but it it never got real white. Just a much lighter shade of grey. I bought mine used so I never saw it brand spanking new. |

Brand new they are a deep rich pink color. I have a new one for when this one is 'worn out'. |
