That just means one less (long) trip to a dealer for my '07! (Message edited by Florida_lime on August 12, 2009) |

Definitely appreciate the info. I wonder if it would be possible to emulate the same fan control scheme on pre-08 bikes with ECMspy? (Message edited by hughlysses on August 12, 2009) |

Not necessary on the 06/07 as the ECMs are still programmable and will allow the installation of a nice power map that allows the engine to run much cooler. Add an RSS and the fan hardly ever runs and the right side fuel rail stays much cooler. |

Gateway has done my re-flashes at no charge. Just just pull the computer up to the drive bay, plug my bike in and poof it's done. I am really thankful I found a great place for me and my bike. When I was looking for a bike I walked into a well known HD dealer with $7k in my pocket and couldn't even get anyone to acknowledge me let alone help me |

2008 and up starts the ThunderStorm II engine with the enhanced oil flow I think. I wonder if this was a factor? |

Could be. They have a larger oil cooler as well. |

Put about 1000 miles on the bike this weekend after installing the Comfort Kit. Can't say enough good things about it. Rode in various temperatures, weather conditions, slow speed, high speed, etc; heat was very low, very tolerable, and the bike seemingly rides and operates better. I am not running the new ECM flash yet. Function is greater than cost in this case. Photo from the trip, Blue Ridge Parkway ~North of Highest Point:

Cyclescoot- thanks for the review. See Anony post one page back in this thread's archives; the new flash only applies to 08 and 09 XB's. No updated flash for 06's or 07's. (Hoping my missing inner right side scoop shows up today...) |

I installed my comfort kit today in two steps. First the inner and outer RSS no shroud, to see how well just that worked. Works pretty well as long as you stay moving at 30 mph or above. In slow traffic or out on a trail at 10 to 15 mph not much help, about the same as with out the RSS. I then installed the fan shroud (1 hrs.)and went for another test ride. Big difference! It took 35 min. for the fan to come on traveling at 75-80 on the freeway, a little longer than without the shroud. The temp. out side was 95. The big difference was the amount of hot air blowing out the back of the bike. When the fan is on the air normally coming out the right side is gone. The shroud makes the fan very efficient and it really pulls the air thru. I did the same stop and go as the first test without the shroud and the bike was very tolerable. In the stop and go traffic the frame rail on the right side started to get a little warm but nothing like before the comfort kit, and as soon as I got back on the freeway it cooled down within a few miles. Well worth the cost and the effort to install. This should have come OEM from 06 on but we have it now. If the heat is bumming you out with this bike get'er done. |

I went for a 100 mile ride this morning, when it was only 85 - 90-ish, and there were times I had to move my right leg away from the frame and the header, and poke it out into the breeze, instead. When I got home from this morning's ride, I had a message from Tucson Harley saying that my Comfort Kit had come in. I picked it up, verified the contents, and brought it home. I only put on the RSS and the header heat shield. I'm leaving the underseat duct for the weekend, when I can do it in the early morning. This afternoon, I took it for a 50 mile test ride, even though it was only 102 degrees at the time. I must say that the ultra-sensitive inner leg thermometers indicate that there's quite a difference. I didn't have to move my leg away from the frame rail at all. The header heat never bothered me. When I stopped, I could actually put my right leg straight down without trying to become bow-legged, which is what normally happens when I stop after the engine gets up to temp - I can't bear to put my right leg down too close to the frame or the engine. Not so, now. I'm impressed so far. I had about 20 minutes of sub-35 MPH slow & go stuff, 15 or so miles of freeway speeds at 75+, 15 miles of mixed back roads (straight & curvy) at 45 - 70, and finally 10 or 15 miles of pretty straight 45 - 50 cruising. My right leg is smiling (if you can picture that). I'll go in for the ECM flash later, after I get a handle on what's going on with the hardware, and what kind of difference it makes. Without the duct in place, the seat still got hot, of course, but that should be fixed this weekend, when I put the duct on. |

I should know about the seat heat in a day or so . . I'm off for a quick 1,000 mile zip about in a day or so to try this stuff out. |

Well... a 'quick' 1000 mi ride should do it. Will be awaiting test results...along with a few thousand other BWB. The sacrifices we make for the greater good ! Watch out for Buicks - Is it a requirement that one has to be at least 75 & not see over the steering wheel, to drive one ? j |

I ordered my comfort kit just minutes ago from Dillon Brothers HD in Omaha. It was over the phone and surprised me that they didn't require a credit card number. Said just to pay when it came in. That was strange but nice. |

The comfort kit is a good thing for the dealers to encourage. It should improve the Buell experience overall and that could bring in new buyers. I am delighted so far. |

One other observation/comment. It looks like the 2010 had dropped the "heat deflector" that used to snap on under the seat. I suspect those who have them can remove them once the comfort kit is installed. |

The lack of the side deflectors was noted back in the 2010 Uly thread. I wonder if they SHOULD be removed, or they aren't needed so were deleted to save the $ at the factory ? |

Yea, no need for the deflectors any longer as no air exits under seat. I got a good start on my install last night. Disassembled the tail, removed pan, JB Welded ECM nut in place, installed duct, put pan back in place. Stopped at that point. It's good to go through things like this occasionally. I found a couple of the stainless steel fasteners were really loose. One of the inserts that holds the shock adjuster came out with the bolt, and some of the luggage rack bolts were really rusty. Need to pick up some star washers today for the ground bolts and hopefully will finish up the duct install tonight. |

I think more they are not needed as the shroud directs the air out the bottom. I left mine in. As an addendum to what I wrote above, I went for another ride just around town like doing errands and the fan did not come on at all. Very comfy. The heat that the bike used to put out on the right leg stopped me from using it for tooling around and local commuting. I live in SoCal and the 95-108 temps made me park the Uly. Not now! Mike |

>>>I suspect those who have them can remove them once the comfort kit is installed. I removed mine . . . the instruction are silent. My feeling is that it's simply not needed. Joe . . . I may be passing but it may be in the wee hours . . . I'm going to try to make a pass down Skyline drive and just wander a bit. I'll do my old trick . . . every time I see the speed limit creep above 40MPH . . . turn off an take a side road.

Just got my download and did a little back road run. Short and slow. RIght where it always was at its worst. I think we have a winner here. I recommended that my dealer - HD of WV - stock up and start selling these C-kits. It is, so far, the best improvement in overall drivability I have done yet. I'll be at the WV rally for a short time so I'll get some real saddle time. SO FAR SO GOOD! |

I picked mine up today and installed it on my 06 in a couple of hours. Then took it out for a good hard run, fan did not come on. Frame tank was cool on both sides. This kit works really well. Looks good also. Thanks Buell. |

Well, that's it, then. It was raining this morning so I wore my cool-weather riding clothes: my right leg STILL got flamed. I'll stop by and order a kit on the way home from work today. I've complained enough; now it's put-up or shut-up time. --Doc |

i already have a right air scope and i am not sure if they will even sell the kit here in the UK? i am tempted about heatshields though and the fan mod... however my fan rarely comes on during riding...its too bloody cold here all the time usually it comes only on after i turn the bike off and even than not all the time...depending if i was riding slow in town or quick out of town... would you still reckon the kit is worth it? you all seem to love it. thx Lars |

Rode in this morning an it's a stretch of freeway followed by a long string of lights and stop signs. Usually when I would be at the crest of the one hill after coming off the freeway I would have to do the wishbone a bit from the heat. Today there was nothing! Go Buell! |

Lars, they do sell it in the UK, the part number for an 06 UK bike is M1907.1AK, same as the US. Call your friendly neighborhood dealer or one of the ones here and try it out |

'What do you think of the comfort kit big dave'. 'My advice and buy some proper protective clothing instead.' 'No - they are too hot - I ride in jeans.' 'Good - buy the kit - and tell that to the nurse when she is dressing the skin grafts.' Don't ride in levis guys. down the shop or whatever - yeah I do to. If you are doing serious arse riding - wear decent leather or armour and kevlar. Nada on the denim. Why am I still on about this? - is because the only time I notice any heat is in jeans. Jeans blow as riding gear. If you are installing a comfort kit so you can ride in jeans - it is a bad idea. Ventilated leather. (Message edited by danger_dave on August 14, 2009) |
