I was thinking about this today while riding...I have a XB9S and am getting ready to order the XB12 air box and filter. When ordering the filter, do I order a XB9 or XB12 filter? |

The filters are the same, only the box upper lid needs to be changed. |

Filter is the same, just ordered a 12 box lid for my xb9s, its on back order around 3 weeks. Hope yours dosen't take that long to get. When you get it, and install it post some info on what, if any difference you see when you ride. Thanks man. |

I installed the K&N filter and 12 airbox everything else is stock. There is a noticeable difference in power this is only seat of the pants dyno, and the motor seems to rev quicker. This is a very cheap and effective mod. |

Sounds like I'll see a difference. So far I have a full race kit. (ECM, pro muffler, and high flow filter). Also have pro series, splitfire style plugs. And I haven't had good enough weather to try it since I removed the snorkel. Yeah the dealership didn't remove it when they installed the kit. Anyway looking forward to adding the 12 lid, soon as it comes in from back order. Does this sound like a good combo? Any comments or ideas? |

What's the approximate cost of a new XB12 upper airbox?

I've got just the K&N and the 12 airbox with no other mods...yet. (Race ecm and drummer as soon as I get some extra $) Just had the combo for about a month and really heard and felt a difference right away. The bike revs quicker and has a bit more punch. Can't wait to complete the package! |

12 lid $54.00 dollars Canadian. Hey Tucsonxb9s, how does it sound different with the 12 lid? Engine sounds louder? Or can you hear more exhaust? Just wondering. |

The exhuast isn't louder, but the intake "noise" is different.Ya know that deep bwaaaaaaaaa honk ya get when you get on it? I can't really explain, but it is just different...but good! You really can't loose with this simple mod IMHO. |

I just completed xb12 Airbox, Race filter, Race ECM and my D&D exhaust....amazing sound and top end, but I noticed that my XB9S seems to be idling higher across the rev range...stock it seemed 3K RPM was 65 where now I am just dancing around 59-60 mph...Am I just not right in my head? |

Have you got your TPS reset yet? |

I know what the first three letters of Assuming is and I have to admit I thought that would be handled by my dealer after installing the Race ECM... I will check with my dealer in the AM... |

Question. I ordered one of these for my bike and I'm wondering exactly what it does? How does it provide more power? |

Don't see how your mods could affect gearing so either... 1) The tach is now off (ECM related?) 2) Your clutch is slipping (not likely) 3) You're not right in the head (most likely) Let us know when you figure it out! edited by fasteddieb on March 18, 2004 |

In all honesty the xb12 airbox cover does not really change much. The only real difference I actually could feel was that throttle modulation during cornering was smoother, and acceleration right off idle was better. The reason that the cover works is that the total air volume inside the filter area is less (than the stock xb9r box)and there is a funnel shape to better direct air flow directly into the throttle body and keep the air moving at a higher velocity. The affects are still well worth the small cost. |

I noticed that it was mentioned that the "TPS" should be reset. Is this something that should be done? I am adding your typical package...XB12 airbox cover, K&N filter, Drummer, Race computer...all to a 2003 XB9S. Just making sure I have all my ducks in a row... |

For the sake of sounding ignorant (a roll I fill all too well) why would the TPS have to be reset for any reason on an xb9r? The only reason the TPS must be reset on the 12r is because the position of the servo actuated flap in the stock muffler is directly related to the TPS output. Please let me know. |

If you change the ECM to a race version, yes you will need a TPS reset. Chances are the bike will be unrideable after the change, so don't expect to swap it and then mosey on down to the dealership to have it done. On an XB9S though, the ECM is underseat and (I'm assuuming) more accessible than on a 9R, so take the ECM with you after installing everything else and do it in the parrking lot before having the TPS reset done. |
