I have an 08 xb12s with a drummer exhaust k@n airfilter and breather reroute. These mods had no negative impact to the torque curve over the last year up until the last month. The bike has normal power up to 3800 where power dips very bad thru 4200 where i feel a very noticeable jolt of power. Has anyone had this occur out of the blue? Suggestions to correct it? Thanks

make sure your plugs are not worn in the electrode tips ( not fouled worn )recycle your throttle to reset the tps as per buell ( i don't know how its in your manual) then get a good highway kind of ride in there and check it again if that don't work check fuel pressure sorry thats all I got

Does your Drummer make use of the muffler valve? If so, it or its cable/linkage/actuator may require checking and/or adjustment.

most drummers and the fuel map are to rich in that spot. remove a little fuel.

this is not all. get a afr test done. it will tell you what to do.

Mike, i have an 08, can i complete your suggestions with ecmspy or any other way? To my knowledge, my bike is very hard to marry with ecmspy and almost impossible to work with. True still? Anyone? Thanks, kyle

sounds like the 02 sensor not working right, had the same problem once, no code but changed the 02 and all better...maybe not your problem but worked in my case...

Kevin, thanks for the tip and thanks again 4 the drummer! Can my 08 be professionally tuned or altered with a program? The decel popping and developing power loss is driving me nuts! Does the excessive popping mean i'm running lean and hot?

All vehicles bikes included are going to pop at deceleration, this is just unburned fuel going thru the exhaust; the louder the muffler is the louder your popping will be. Try the O2 sensor; I think you will find that is the problem.
There could be one other thing I would check; I have seen this on many cars. If you have a weak battery or the connections are loose, this could cause the ecm to lose the data it stores in the rom as it learns in open loop; that might be a long shot but I have seen many stranger things in my day turning wrenches.
The golden rule of any mechanic is to make sure you have a fully charged battery and that all the connections are clean and tight. If you have a voltmeter, check your voltage across the terminals while it’s running. Should be over 14 volts; correct me if I’m wrong on this guys, I don’t have time to look in the book.

it really may be as simple as a plug gap to far with the changes try changing plugs with a .037 gap it costs like $7.00 for 2 plugs

Thanks guys. I'll check the battery and change the plugs-although i made one attempt at changing the rear plug and after an hour gave up! I'm sure I'll find help in the badweb search. Thx again

a 4" xtension and a 5/8 swivel plug socket pull the air box covers you do not need to remove the lower plate either a pair of long handle needle nose will help with the plug wires but don't tear the wire

Keep us posted as to what you find out. My '08 scg has the same problem. Took it to the dealer 6 times. The last time I took it to them they made me return the air cleaner and exhaust to stock before they'd diagnose it. AFV would be between 62 and 78 each time. Still doesn't run like it did last year and I'm so irritated with it, I parked in in the back of the garage and went back to the 12R. Not really sure what to do with it. This year th majority of the miles are back and forth to the dealer.

I just replaced the o2 sensor, engine temp sensor, and IAT sensor.. runs like a charm
