Biggie, I put the Uly tail light on my bike, and had to do the minor splicing, and yes it worked. |

The only picture I've seen is this: Doesn't look terribly bright, but it is in broad daylight at an angle. Who knows how the pre-2010 tails would have looked. Needless to day, I'll report on what I found as soon as I get it. For $57, it's DOT-approved and worth a shot. Then again, we all remember how the Firebolt headlights turned out. I guess we'll see... |

Good idea Froggy! The Uly light is a bit overdue :-) I did actually have an awesome idea just the other day for the Uly light that I am very excited about! So, yes yes, order your 2010 LED from buell right away! I've got some other fish to fry, haha!! All seriousness the 2010 light looks pretty neat, I just hope it's brighter then I'm thinkin it will be. Hell I doubt it's brighter then a Uly LED light and if you've seen one of those, they aren't very bright at all! We will see. Erik knows what he's doing :-) |

Another update from vendor: M0851.7AA is a vendor direct, s/o part from HD. PART (S) IN TRANSIT FROM HD TO OUR SHIP FACILITY AS OF 07/30/09. When recvd., your part should ship 08/03 /09 but no later than 08/04/09. |

I picked mine up from the dealer today. Not installed yet, but I hooked it up and I'm pleased so far. I will take pics and post them tomorrow! |

No, its a different connector. Wire diameter has been reduced due to lower current draw. Also, I don't know anything about the light's circuitry, but I suppose the new connector was used to eliminate potentially reversing the polarity (again...not sure if the polarity is important but my experience with diodes is that it is). Ill have some pics and more info tomorrow. |

Ok, as promised, here is my review of the 2010 brake light assembly. DISCLAIMER: Pictures taken with a cell phone camera since my good camera just died. I am NOT a photographer, so no critiquing my lack of skills. Furthermore, this is not a scientific review by any means. YMMV. As I suspected, the 2010 unit is sealed so the clear lens is bonded to the housing to form a watertight seal. No need to access the LEDs since 'technically' they should never burn out. Time will tell. It's probably possible to separate the housing and use the stock red lens if you so desire. I thought I would, but the look doesn't bother me. Clear it will remain... As you can see, the connector is different. Or should I say, we actually have a connector on this light. As most of you are aware, the 2003-2009 tail lights have three male spade connectors. This unit uses a single micro style connector. As you can see, the wire diameter is much smaller given the lower current draw. As I mentioned above, my guess is a connector was used to ensure the light's polarity isn't reversed so no one burns the unit up. Of course, I haven't seen a wiring diagram and I haven't disassembled it to know if this matters. Perhaps Buell incorporated a protection circuit. Possible, I don't know. Either way, keep this in mind when you install yours just to make sure you don't light your $50 bill on fire. Tyco makes a nice male spade connector (18-22 ga) which interfaces perfectly with the stock female connectors. Mounting is same as stock pre-2010 models: Remove two phillips head screws, remove light from bike, disconnect wiring. There is a bit of an air gap surrounding the new tail lamp once installed that wasn't present on the old tail lamp. We'll see how much dirt and water pass through this opening. Might want to consider a 'gasket'. I wonder if the new 2010 mating surface is revised or if this is just the new tail light. I'm not concerned with this right now, so I'll investigate later. Wiring is cake. The colors matched up identically with that of my bike, but in case your wiring is different for some reason: Black - ground Orange/White - running light Red/Yellow - brake As far as a comparison, I have to apologize again for the photo quality. My good camera just died this week and I'm left using my cell phone camera. Installed Pre-2010 running light in direct sunlight 2010 running light in direct sunlight Pre-2010 brake light in direct sunlight 2010 brake light in direct sunlight Pre-2010 running light in 'dark' garage 2010 running light in 'dark' garage Pre-2010 brake light in 'dark' garage 2010 brake light in 'dark' garage The pictures don't accurately reflect the performance of the LED light. Given my crappy camera, lack of exposure settings, and the CHROME tail light housing, the pictures make the LED lamp look rather dim in direct sunlight. In person, the tail light is much more visible and IMO, will be more than sufficient. Unfortunately, I don't have any way to quantify the light output from light to light. However, subjectively speaking, I prefer the light output of the new 2010 LED lamp. Buell's supplier did a nice job of the individual reflectors surrounding each of the 11 LEDs, so light output is at least as good as pre-2010 lights. The thing I really like is that the decay rate on the LED light is much quicker - naturally. In other words, there is no 'lag' when you turn the lights on and off which is typical for an incandescent light. This will be much more attention grabbing when blinking your brake in traffic (or if you use one of those brake light modulators). All in all, I'm very pleased. Looking at the pictures on Buell's site, I was skeptical. It's easy to see that these lights don't photograph well, but I was unsure if that was a function of the light or the camera/photographer. I'm pretty convinced its the latter. It's DOT-legal which is a perk and only cost $50 - even better! As long as the LEDs survive the test of time, I'm sticking with this tail light. No longer do I need to worry about losing a filament on the road and not having a brake or running light. If I had any safety concerns, rest assured, I wouldn't use it. Discuss. |

That's great. At $50 thats cheaper than what I spent to build my own. I spent close to that much on raw materials just for a clear lens! I still like that mine are a one of a kind, but with that one available so cheap I don't think I would do it again.

1324... Great job! I just posted a similar question since I want to use the LED tail light as seem in the 2010 1125R in my 2008 1125R. A few questions if you don't mind: 1) Is the tail light part number you purchased the same for the XBs and the 1125R/CR? 2) Based on your experience, can you share the information on the color codes for the wiring on the LED tail light fixture? For example... RED=positive running, BLACK= ground, etc. 3)I was not able to find the Tyco p/n in their web site. However, searching it by keyword returned 50 results. Would you mind pinpointing the specific part? I may have access to get it from Tyco directly. Thanks in advance. |

Here is my best attempt with the limited information I have. 1) The tail light p/n I used was the one Froggy provided earlier in this thread. When I ordered it from my dealer, they didn't have the 2010 parts books in yet. So, I'm not sure where this part is used. Perhaps Buell has a few variants of the tail light, because this one specifically says "w/o licence plate light". I'd try the dealer or a parts book and see what other ones are available. Moral is though, this one will work for you. 2) See above. But: Black - ground Orange/White - running light Red/Yellow - brake 3) I already threw the packaging away, sorry. However, these connectors are 1/4" male spade connectors, 18-22 ga. I bought these from Home Depot. These had a pink plastic insulator around the connector that mated perfectly with the female connector. To be honest, any 1/4" 18-22 ga male spade connector should work fine. This stuff is pretty standard. Good luck! |

To the best of my knowledge, the new 2010 turn signals are incandescent, not LED. The 2008-2009 1125R/CR rear turn signals are LED, but they've experienced some longevity issues (although mine worked out flawlessly on my XB9S)...might be why they switched. Of course, the new turn signals will work on any year XB. I don't know what bulb type they require, so a new flasher relay might be needed....but maybe not. Not sure until someone can chime in on the new bulb wattage. |

They revised the 1125R LED signals a few times, the most current revision seems to be fine and not failure prone. |

l think you're right. The 2010 turns are probably incandescent. l just ordered the LED tail light and asked about the turn signals. The parts guy said the description wasn't specifically LED so, he figured it wasn't. They were only $17.40 a piece, too. Do you have a part number and price for the LED turns you purchased. And, if you have pics that would be a bonus. Sorry about the camera crash. |

I believe they had problems with bad circuitry that would fail after a short time. They revised them a few times, the good ones say Rev. D on the box and have grey rubber seals inside the blinker. |
