I'll be up that way working on a new replay system for UT's football and basketball complex. Sadly I won't have the Buell because my arm is still in a cast for three more weeks or it would be loaded in the trailer with our gear. Any locals that have good lunch spots and taverns/bars for an after work brew, I'd love some info. Maybe we could meet up as well for that brew. Just don't pull up on the bike and rub it in.....

I used to be a local but it was so long ago I don't know if any of my old haunts still exist! The "Longbranch Saloon" used to be a good place. "Sam and Andy's" was another one. There may be some good spots in the "Old City" or "Market Square Mall".

I'm not a local, but I do make my way over there several times a year either to ride in the mountains, or to a few football games in the fall.
May I suggest Calhoun's down by the river. Great food, great atmosphere, GREAT beer. They are a part of the Smokey Mountain Brewery chain of restaurants and they have really good locally brewed beer. Another one is called The Copper Cellar located on the strip, just off the UT campus. Also a part of The Smokey Mountain Brewery.
I really enjoy the Cherokee Red brew, but be careful, it will land you face down if you let it. Thunder Road is another good brew of theirs.
Thats just a couple close to were you'll be working. Finding a place for a beer is easy in Knoxville. It is a drinking town with a football problem.
+1 on the Old City as well.
I love Knoxville TN! ! !

Matt

I'm actually hitting three schools in the next two months to install these replay systems. UT is first on the list, Arizona State second, then UCONN.

Matt I'm always willing to support the local brews. I've been to all three spots to walk the jobs, ASU is the only place I had time to really check out the city. KiltLifter was the brew in Tempe. Awesome beer!

Hey there Jesse- come on up and visit for a spell...

Knoxvegas does have a lot to offer- point your web browser to the local weekly free rag and check out the goings-on:

www.metropulse.com

Also, the editors of Metropulse look after a local biker mag as well (I write the "cruiser" column):

www.fromthehandlebars.com

I live in Maryville ("Mur-vil" for locals)- be sure to stop in and see my old coworkers and friends at Smoky Mountain HD/BUELL- on the weekends there are some GREAT music shows at the Shed adjacent to the dealership. Go to their website and check the schedule for events whilst you're here.

In the downtown Knoxville area, just go to Gay Street or the Old City and park- you can walk to Market Square, up and down Gay St., good goings-on in the Old City (check out the new gastropub, the Crown and Goose). On Gay, check out the Downtown Brewery. In Market Square, Preservation Pub and The Tomato Head- heck, there are plenty of kewl spots there, including an new (gorgeous!) place called the Square Room.

On the corner of Gay and Summit Hill is the Knoxville Visitor's Center which is also the studio for WDVX, "East Tennessee's Own" listener supported radio station. Monday thru Friday at noon, they do a live broadcast called the Blue Plate Special- you can show up and check it out anytime for free. (Fridays the Blue Plate is broadcast from the Square Room.) This is the BEST radio station I've ever listened to, I contribute for every fundraiser and know all the folks that run it- SUPER good peeps. 89.9FM generally in the area or 102.9FM downtown.

If you have a chance to check out the Tennessee Theatre or the Bijou on Gay St., do it- AWSUUMMM performance venues.

From downtown the main drag is Cumberland Ave (aka Kingston Pike aka HWY 70), you can stay on this going west and end up in Nashville eventually. Lots and lots of stuff that way, but I hate the traffic. Just as well to stay downtown and do it all on foot.

About a mile from downtown on Broadway there is a cool coffeehouse called the Time Warp Tearoom- this is a vintage motorcycle hangout. The owners are old bike gearheads, on Tuesdays they have a vintage bike nite. Great coffee/espresso, plenty of bike memorabilia, good peeps.

Shameless plug: I work at a restaurant in Alcoa called Puleo's Grille. There are 4, soon to be 5 of these around Knoxville. Great grub.

Drop me a PM and let me know your itinerary. (My dad lived in Land Betweeen the Lakes, so I know you're in for a treat just to get to the mountains...) ; )

Firebolt,

When do you plan to be in the area? May be able to get a few Buellers together for a lunch. We would likely ride in just to rib you.

I won't consume the beers when I ride, but don't mind watching someone else shove a few back! Throw me a PM.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll be up that way Aug.3-Aug.14. I'll have to see what our progress is on Fri the 7th before I tell the boys we can play on the weekend. I'd love to meet up with some folks if time permits though.
