I don't think it's necessarily WHAT was said in the book. I think the issue was THAT it was said in a BOOK. See one person with piercings and tattoos and they are an individual. See a group of 20 all dressed exactly alike with all the same piercings and tattoos, same doo rags, etc. and it looses it's effect. Write a book on how to look and act and it just becomes ridiculous. We may THINK it, but we sure as hell wouldn't codify it in a "BOOK of BUELL". |

I've been sitting this out so far because I did not know what to think about the new ad campaign, the Blast-BORG and BOB. Greenlantern brought up a point I thought was interesting: Once YOU GUYS got my attention, I returned to the technical achievements Erik had made and saw them in an entirely different light. If you take the demographics of the BadWeB crowd as a guide, you will find no guidance. We are the finest collection of miscreans there is. No commonality, save one, a passion for Buell motorcycles and company - new models and old models. Maybe Greenlantern is correct. Reading between the lines of this massive source of information you can boil it down to this: Screw'em, let's ride that Buell. The new advertising sort of supports it with the "Ruthless theme" and "meant to be ridden theme". Buell is no Toyota, building vehicles that offend no-one. Creating a product and a brand that offends some, cements other that much more. You can be perfectly successfull creating a product that 10% go ga-ga over and the rest are left in a state of lukewarm to repulsion. I think Buell being direct in saying who they are and the bike's purpose is overdue and I applaud them for it. It will offend some. I say, that's fine. Two decades of PC is enough. |

See one person with piercings and tattoos and they are an individual. See a group of 20 all dressed exactly alike with all the same piercings and tattoos, same doo rags, etc. and it looses it's effect. Changed to: See one person with riding jackets and pants and they are an individual. See a group of 20 all dressed exactly alike with all the same riding jackets and pants, same Scorpion helmet, bike and it looses it's effect. it all depends on which angle you see things at. |

I didn't really get the joke till watching the movie clips after the book. It left me with the impression that Erik only wanted to get into formula 1 and still has that dream. That like most of us he has done what was needed to put food on the table. Now with the Buell storehouse full enough I'm looking for the F1 bike. The AMA stuff seams to be the heats and leading up to the feature. |

So where do we get those stickers they had in the Book?? If you view the BoB on-line, there's a link on the page showing the sticker in the back of the truck window where you can send for one sticker for free. The link and redemption code has been posted in a couple of the 2010-related threads. |

Excellent post Greenlantern I refuse to get my panties in a bunch over a new advertising campaign. The bikes are still the same. The Blast is gone but I think most of us here knew that was going to happen sooner or later. It just happened sooner rather than later. The BOB may be an accessible outlet for the disappointment and bitterness over the loss of the Blast but I don't think it's the proper outlet. It's just marketing. The BOB isn't the 'only' reason to own a Buell. It's just 'one of the reasons' that's currently being highlighted for this season. Next year it will be something else for us to bitch & moan about |

Who's the BOB intended for? People looking to buy or people who have? Its definately not intended for Sport-Adventure type buyers. Is the Uly next to be cubed? |

What is Buell known for? What does the FOUNDER want Buell to be known for? What is the FOUNDER'S central passion? The Uly is a great bike, but it ISN'T the central focus of the FOUNDER. If it weren't a successful selling bike, bet your ass it would get cubed. |

Ahh but the Uly fits right into the 'athletic' part beautifully. I think it was the man himself who said "what's more athletic than an adventure sportbike?" |

"What is the FOUNDER'S central passion?" I thought it was motorcycles, all of them, including the one he rides daily. The 100,000th one to roll off the assembly line. To have a complete BOB, one would include everthing BUELL, not just sportbikes. |

Why panty bunching? Because the publication would make some of us LESS likely to buy one of the vehicles. Not enough to stop anyone with an IQ greater than 20, admittedly. Edited for typos (Message edited by danger_dave on July 27, 2009) |

>> "what's more athletic than an adventure sportbike?"<< It depends on the contest - it's not that flash at sprint races, excellent at the decathlon. |

go back and listen to his video about the S1, he talks about you could ride that bike through a field all day if you wanted to.... I think he likes the idea of off pavement riding well enough. |
