Tony are those race headers on S2 because I tried Stock they wouldn,t fit Butch yep those are the late tuber (has O2 sensor bung in it) model race headers, with a race muffler, drummer-ized, attached. its the 2.5" outlet. it took a lot of hammer forming to make it fit without touching the frame, but it sure helps on keeping my pants unburnt compared to the stock exhaust! dont see many of those on S2's, do ya??!! | ||

My buddy Hughgo Had a 1954 KK fact Race he used on the road,and said it was a fast rare bike.Smiles every time we talk about it. Talked to man who restored the KH said a lot of it polished out and chroming but Stock otherwise.Pizzaboy I,d like to know more about that Muffler!  | ||

Vincent was having great success with their 4-cam unit V-twin. This was not lost on Harley, but all they had was the side valve top end to putz with until they went OHV in '57. Things come full circle. The '52 & '53 motors had to be split to get to the transmission. '54 thru '03 have the trap doors (plus the XBRR of '07). Now were are back to 1952, which cuts manufacturing costs, not repair costs. Side valve KR 750s were made for flat trackers & TT until 1969, the late ones with dual carbs. Still, I give a nod and a wink to Vincent for many years of enjoyment with my Yank 4-cammers. | ||

Pizzaboy, I love your bike, and I love the exhaust, but I don't think that is a race header. Judging by the clamp in front of the motor, I'm presuming that the elbow is attached to the muffler. The race headers (early and late) had the elbow built into the header, so the muffler connection was straight. Some of the later stock headers still had 2.5" collectors. | ||

hmm thats interesting; and you certainly could be correct! i bought the header and muffler from a guy on badweb about a year ago, and i certainly have a way of forgetting the details. since it was 2.5" i just recall it being the race version and not standard; i didnt know they used the 2.5" on any standard headers even with the thunderstorm engines. you could definitely be correct, though. i will try to search back from the ad i bought it from; or maybe court has some insight?? | ||

Yes, I believe the M2 header is the one that changed depending on who knows what. Many have reported having black headers, 2" outlet, from the factory, and others stainless headers, 2.5" outlet, from the factory. Some suggested that the difference being US spec and Euro spec, but who knows. I believe all of the X1 headers had 2.5" outlet though. Does the pipe have a hole for an O2 bung (which would obviously be plugged now)? Another thing that suggests it is a standard header is the length of the Drummer muffler. The Buell race mufflers were much shorter than the standard mufflers. I believe the Drummers were modified stock mufflers rather than race mufflers. They habe excellent performance though, don't get me wrong. I remember when you bought that pipe too. (Message edited by Phelan on July 27, 2009) | ||

my header has the O2 bung plugged up with a brass fitting. it would very well be from an X1. i hadnt thought about the length of the muffler either. right now, thanks to the fat tip that drummer welded on, it grinds on the ground if i lean too far over. im contemplating breaking the weld on the front of the muffler and bending it back so it no longer contacts then rewelding and adjusting the brackets.... if i cant find anyone to buy it, and i become stuck with the bike. | ||

On the weekend we went to the Australian Motorcycle Museum at Haigslea in South East Queensland, There were some really cool bikes in there but this one had me  The owners of the museum bought it new in Colarado in 96, rode it around the States for a while before importing it back home to Australia. I t has 19000miles on it. It could do with a little TLC. It is the first time I have ever seen an S2 in the flesh as they were never introduced here. Just thought I'd share these few pictures. Judging by the fenders (and the fact that there weren't 700 built in '96), that is a '95 model. 1399 States models were built, along with I think around 90 for California. Mine is #814. | ||

Joesbuell, next time you are there can you get the full VIN. Ross, there is very little different in the shape of the fenders. The easiest way to tell is the thickness of the fender. The early ones were real thick, making the shape a little different. You cannot flex the early fenders at all without cracking them. You have to drop the front tire to get the fender off. The later ones will bend a little to allow them to be removed without dropping the front tire. Next time you are at the house remind me to show you. I cannot tell the shape of that one to say it is early or not. Several dealers that had 95s on the floor may have sold them in 96. Joe, I would also be curious to know what dealership it was purchased at. During that time Pikes Peak HD/Buell was one of the better Buell dealerships, under old management. Of course they are sub standard these days. Ross, how many S2's (not S2Ts) were made in 96? I am asking because I really do not know. Frank | ||

How many S2s were made in 1996? The owners list, despite my best efforts, is not a valid source and I can only reflect the data that people send me and half the time they do not respond to my emails. No big deal. Without the full VIN it is a moot point. | ||

You bet Joe... That would be the Signature Series timing cover. Butch, my 95 S2 does not have holes in the front fender. It is number 35. |
