Before I got my Uly, I saw an awesome paint job on a Uly.....it was an urban camo. I have no experience painting. Can anyone who does custom paint jobs on bikes do plastic?? And will the paint actually stay on the plastic or flake off?? Thanks!! | ||

Buell put out an accessory camo body kit in '06, maybe that's what you saw.... not that that helps with your question. I painted the grey part of my chin spoiler black with krylon fusion plastic paint & it's holding up OK, not great. -beat me Froggy & w pic! (Message edited by oddsc on July 13, 2009) | ||

You will hear a lot of good answers to this question. There are a lot of acceptable home brewed paint jobs, and a lot of really nice professional "ridden" bike paint jobs, and of course some fantastic show paint work. The paints available now days with the help of proper preparation and adhesive coats with flexible additives make it easy to make the paint adhere and not crack. And then there is the finish, how much time do you want to have your painter spend finish sanding and buffing. That comes at a price though. To do it properly is worth it IMHO. As a body shop owner my advice is to do what you have started doing, ask questions. There are so many varied ways to do the work and products that will provide excellent adhesion and finishes, you will likely be confused. Heck, we in the business are too, simply because of the unlimited of options available. Most of us find a brand and type of product or two that we like working with, or that works well for our circumstances, as in what we paint, how big we paint, how long it lasts, what it costs, color match-ability, dry times, flow and shine characteristics, what it will be use for and so on. For camo, there are a lot of vinyl wraps avialable that make it quick and inexpensive for the home shop, those usually come out quite well. Good luck with your project. I used some off-the-shelf Rustoleum rattle can stuff to do my chin spoiler. It's made for plastic and has a hammer finish. It turned out great (at least I like it) and was easy to use. | ||

I just talked to the guys at http://www.camo-solutions.com/. They told me that they will not do motorcycle parts cause they have a 12 week backlog of guns and bows. He suggested a place called h2o graphics. They seem to have all the same patterns. When I saw the camo picture above a year ago, I was all over it but it is no longer in production. I left a message for the guy at h2o to call me back so I will report when her does. Check out the copper snake skin one.  | ||

you have to sand the surface of every inch of your plastics, then you need a kick ass adhesion promoter, then quality paint and rockin urethane clearcoat. I have my whole bike done and I even dropped it the other day with barely a scuff. I do custom paint and bodywork. |
