This would be what's known as a viral ad campaign. That would be an ad that is so shocking(good or bad) that it makes "the rounds" like a virus. Pretty clever, if you ask me. Am I spouting old news? I do that sometimes... |

By the way I said "clever", not good. |

The thread over at advrider (and the previous pictures of the Blast without a Buell logo) sure makes food for thought. Is there a Rotax street single or a dirtier entry-level Buell coming? Is this the first half of a two-part ad? Come to think of it: haven't Blasts been assembled at Kansas City instead of East Troy all along? Do I recall correctly that my 2000 Blast had an HD logo on the speedo face? Maybe Court's story about the $800 Martin guitars is really pointing somewhere - will we see a couple of pages of Blast custom parts and chrome in the next HD catalog? |

Has anyone ever seen this? http://www.design-concepts.com/work/projects/buell _thorengine.php It leads me to believe the Blast was a Harley Riders Edge solution that would fit perfect with the Buell line up and not so much with the Harley line. Looks to me like the Blast was out sourced to solve a Harley problem while Buell was busy engineering other things like the XB or 1125 line. (Message edited by ulyscol on July 23, 2009) |

>>>haven't Blasts been assembled at Kansas City instead of East Troy all along? No. The story in the link above is good. Patience. |

Here is my theory after reading through this thread. The Blast isn't going anywhere, it just will not be branded a Buell. Buell is going to release a 562.5R |

Lighten up people! Have a sense of humour too Can Buell have a contraversial ad like this one and still remain true to the qualities and values of the company we have come to know and love? I think so. Everybody seems to focus on the "racing and sportsbikes" words and translating to Buell will make race-replicas and nothing else. I don't think that's the case, I think "sportbike" has a much broader meaning to Buell, and always has. It took me a long time to realise a Uly is a "sportbike". Don't forget the first bike Erik Buell built (once a racer...), but don't forget he rides a Uly himself, and the man has a 200 year plan. I posted on Buell's facebook page asking what was happening with the 2010 Blast and this new ad. They posted back a few hours ago "Wish we could tell you more guys. Everything will be explained on July 25th. Stay tuned." I'm looking forward to the next few days |

It's the September issue. I still don't understand why it's published in July... |

According to the posters over at advrider (scroll up for the link) it's in the September issue of RIDER, too. I let my sub lapse a few months ago, so I can't confirm. |

I guess I have a short fuse, or maybe I don't like being mocked. The last guy who called my bike a POS lost 20 years of business working on my Sportster. It's slightly annoying, to say the least, to have the designer and manufacturer of your daily ride tell you it's only worth scrap. It also makes me -- albeit not intentionally -- look like a moron for convincing newbies to buy a Blast instead of a Sportster or Rebel. Worse, it makes the Harley salesmen look right when they tell students that the Blast is crap. I'm trying to chuckle. Maybe it will happen, but not tonight. |

Threads on Badweb (4 pages in 1 day), advrider, sport-touring.net, buellforums.com, motorcycle-database.com, others? Whatever we think of it, I'd say the ad is having the desired effect. |

I just love how Buell never fails to have us on the edge of our seats waiting on word... think back when the 1125R was about to come out... |

"Patience. Sit down. Hold on." Waiting... waiting... waiting... drumming fingers... developing nervous twitch... C'mon Buell, what have you got waiting in the wings? Waiting... waiting... waiting... |

>>>... think back when the 1125R was about to come out... Heck . . . I remember eagerly waiting to see if rumors of a Buell without a full fairing and a "new flip up" seat were true . . . 20 years ago. It's all good. |

I believe you Court, believe me I do. I've learned that usually you know best, if there's anything at all I've learned on the past three years I've been on this board. I'm just waiting for the obligatory "Remind me to tell you sometime..."

Nope, I dont find crushing a bike funny. Even though it takes less than 18 minutes for them to assemble one, I just cant get behind the idea of compacting a bike like that. Never a fan of when they did it to cars either. Like I said, send all the ones you think you want to crush my way, I will get them a good home. (Its not like I dont know how to sell the damn things) |

Grrrrrrr, another "friend" of mine just saw the ad and e-mailed harassment. I told him to commit an act that is not only unnatural but not possible. I'm either going to have to grow a thick skin or make friends with a bail bondsman, at this rate. Whatever come out, I'm stuck with footstool jokes for the next year or two. Thanks Buell. |
