I can't edit the post title but I wanted to add that these part numbers are for the updated shifters for M2/S2 and X1/S1. http://www.buell.com/en_ca/gear/accessories/product.asp?Menu_ID=2&ProductLineID=6&CategoryID=7&ProductID=1316 I have a 99 X1, my single biggest bitch about riding it is the shifting action which sucks. I don't have a chin fairing, and wouldn't mount one if I did because I think it looks better without it. Which one of these gives a better feel. I am assuming that either will work on an X1 without the fairing, I am sure that one you will inform me if that is not the case. (Message edited by 12mpghwy on July 01, 2009) |

Are these for the 2001 and up Tubers with the short throw linkage?? If so I think they are so much crisper it is quite noticeable. |

You cannot use the updated M2 shifter on and X1 or vise versa. Since the X1 foot pegs are further back and higher than the M2, the updated X1 shifter is longer than the M2 shifter. |

thank you jmkybf... So this a worthwile fix for the generally clunky shifting? Note that I don't have a specific problem, just clunky shifting and hard to find neutral. It improved allot when I went to mobile 1 vtwin in the primary and also loostend the primary chain back to 7/8in slack tightest point from 5/8. |

The banke i have makes the shifting a lot smoother, i assume this will do the same. |

Getting away from the boomerang shifter definitely increases accuracy and shift feel...but it doesn't fix a maladjusted clutch or primary (which you've already addressed, so it seems). Get the one listed for X1. Yes, you're running without chin spoiler...but your peg location is slightly different IIRC than those on an M2/S3. S2 is totally different. AFAIK there is no updated shifter for the S2, at least from Buell. |

I've got a banke and an 01+ shifter. For what it's worth - my banke sits in a spare parts box (I'll sell it soon as I find all the parts) Not sure how the X1 shifter kit will work for you though since it's got parts specifically designed to allow the chin fairing to be mounted. You may be able to order from American Sport Bike and explain that you need an M2 kit but with the longer X1 lever. |

IIRC the main difference for mounting is longer bolts and some spacers. Perhaps an X1 shifter with M2 mounting hardware...? I'll have to pull the instruction sheets at work... |

X1 kit works fine without the chin fairing, I've got one on my bike now (had to cut the lever for proper length on my M2). Just get the kit instead of trying to mix and match. The main mounting block/spacer thingy is a two piece part on the X1 to allow for the fairing, the lever is specific to the X1 as said above by several people. |

I ran the updated shifter on my X1 without the chin fairing for a (while with the stock spacers), it worked fine. |
