The Nolan N60 is only $79.99 at helmetshop.com. Made in China? Or is it S. Korea? That is a great deal on what looks to be a solid helmet. However looking at the Nolan budget models and even the one above, I don't see a spoiler nor mention of one. Try riding at triple digits without one and as the tunnel vision begins to set in try to remember how great it was to save a couple hundred bucks. I remember riding with a strangler. I'd pay $1,000 to avoid ever having to put up with that again. Thankfully, even Shoei's budget models now include a spoiler. It's amazing what such a little tiny detail can do to the aerodynamics. Kills the lift entirely. Ask Susan Wilson about that effect. Even riding at highway speeds into a slight headwind is absolute misery if your full face helmet lacks a spoiler. Also note that the seal between shield and helmet does not circumscribe the entire face opening of a Nolan. That is a tough thing to even do on a new helmet let alone have the seal perform perfectly for the life of the lid. It is also one of the significant things that makes a helmet quite. I'd be very surprised if any of the Nolan helmets shown achieve the low wind noise level that a Shoei does. It's rare that you find such a competitively mass marketed product that violates the old addage of "You get what you pay for." |

Blake I can really see what your getting at and I might take your advice and get a highgrade helmet for trackdays. For daily riding I just can't afford the wear and tear that I seem to inflict on helmets. 6 months seems to be the limit to the life of my helmets. Not because they are cheap but I just can't seem to keep them in one piece. |

I usually end up with small cracks and stuff like that. Vents breaking, non removeable liners becoming removable. I had one face shield crack while riding. After awhile you get tired of dropping $200-$300 for a helmet and if I find one I like at closeout I will pick it up but I got tired of dropping lots of money that seems to just fall apart. I have sent several back to manufacturers for them to tell me everything from quit getting hit by rocks to quit dropping it. The only one to be replaced under warrenty was the one that the chin strap broke from the inside on. |

I agree on the helmet wear. 6-8 months. I probably take my helmet on/off 4-5 times a day. I buy "thrasher" helmets for everyday wear. "Thrasher" helmets are discontinued models of helmets that fit me, that I can get for $75-$100. If you're not picky about colors, it works. All I ask is lite colored for summer. I've been buying Bieffe B20's, but they are getting scarce. I'm gonna have to find another model for "Thrashers". |

My Shoei X-9 lasted for 5 years and ~45,000 miles. Still no cracks or breaks. Couple of nicks and replaced the faceshield twice due to scratches. I'm replacing it as the interior has finally become uncomfortable and the chin strap leather is starting to come apart. Cost me $250? from Aerostich. |

There are a lotta good KBC's over at www.motorcyclecloseouts.com The VR-1 is easily comparable to the RF900-1000 in fit and finish. You can get it over there for a little over $100. I have one for my "good" helmet. |

Wycked, Dude, you must exude some serious kinda funkism! How do your wristwatches hold up? LOL! I always wear a cheap cotton skull cap. Helps keeps scalp toxins from infecting the helmet. |

6 watchbands in the last 2 years actually Blake I have also been known to eat holes in the backing of the metal watchcase as well. So now if the watch isn't good for 200m diving depth I don't buy it. The skull caps don't seem to any any extra life. |

Do you also have an extra set of miniature choppers that telescope out of your mouth before you snatch your prey? |

Very good article on the flip up helmets in this months Motorcycle consumer news, the Nolan gets their coveted Best Buy moniker. The schuberth was highly rated as well. |
