Target is 250 rear wheel horsepower at 9500rpm, and just shy of DOUBLE the torque of the original ZX-10R motor.
double the torque!!! with 250HP!!! is that like 160lbs of torque? im pretty sure 1000's make around 80lbs or torque.. thats a beast, too much power

Too much is never enough! Bite your tongue!

Bet that thing would be as fun and terrifying as anyone would like.

PODS are here to stay. If you want a bike that looks like every other bike out there then you DON'T want a Buell.

"Different in every sense!"

Yep, and if they try a little harder they could make the 1125 line so ugly no one would buy one- is that different enough? The truth is the 1125's biggest challenge is the styling, and the majority of the buying public does not like it. I do not believe that a design has to abandon aesthetics in order to be different. Buell should rise to the challenge of designing good form and function- praising function over form is a sad excuse/deflection for inadequate styling/design.

Hayabusa sales dropped precipitously after the redesign- Suzuki alienated their core customer by missing the mark on styling. I actually like the new GSX1300R, but about 95% of my Suzuki customers did not.

Bikes like the 1125R and 'Busa look the way they do because they're actual designed to be aerodynamic. Actual aerodynamic designs are not the sharp cutting through the air pretty shapes we imagine them to be.

form follows function.

That's funny cause I can't tell that much difference between the 07 and 08 Busa's. They're both ugly bikes IMO.

Yep, none of the other faired sportbikes have any aerodynamics incorporated into their design. And the original GSX1300R, which increased sales every year for a decade, had the aerodynamics of a brick, right?

No, aerodynamics are intrinsic to modern sport motorcycle design- however, how the styling and function are incorporated in the design is what makes a bike desirable. You cannot ignore form in favor of function and expect it to be universally accepted. If that were not the case, a 250 pound, toothless female sex addict would be more desired than a beautiful model into monogamy. Human beings are programmed to respond to pleasing aesthetics- why fight nature?

I think the BIG bikes must get a free ugly pass, because they really are. The Busas are all lumpy like a '98 Tiburon, and the ZX-12s looked like some kind of alien bug.

I really dig the 1125 in both iterations. Bobble head, scoops, and all.

And red, if you think a 250 lb toothless nympho is idealistic for anything..... *shiver*

"styling aerodynamics" is intrinsic to modern sportbike design. What looks sleek and fast, and maybe even gets some tweaking in a wind tunnel, or with CFD.

When you actually design a bike from the start to actually have a lower than average Cd, you end up with the bulbous, ugly, but 'laminar' shapes of the 'Busa, RR1000, and 1125R.

The previous generation 'Busa vs. the ZX12R is a good example of the difference. The 'Busa was faster with less power, but definately 'uglier.'

Not according to the marketplace- the original GSX1300R is a motorcycling icon with universal appeal and acceptance, and has the sales figures to prove it. Kawasaki's challenger does indeed have aerodynamics, but nowhere near the styling appeal- even Suzuki has been unable to recreate the 1st gen Hayabusa's success.

Suzuki would be smart to learn from Ducati's experience- let the current generation Hayabusa be their 999 and hurry up and introduce a 1098 to get back in the game. I have said it many times, and I'll say it again- form and function are not mutually exclusive. Aerodynamic does not mean ugly- it just requires solid engineering, superior styling/design and taste. I have confidence that Buell will get it right with the 1125 series... hopefully soon.

I can only speculate since I've never owned one but I think the appeal of owning a Hayabusa was going fast and having the biggest bike more-so than finding it visually pleasing. At least at first. Now, not only do they have a reputation for going fast but the aftermarket support is crazy. I think they attract custom builders because of parts selection and young people because they want the bikes that were in the rap videos, blah blah blah.

I think part of the early Hayabusa's appeal was that it does NOT have the 186 mph speed governor on it. Out of the box it nipped at the heels of 200mph (one of the reasons for the 186 mph governor, by the way).

+1 on the styling of the 1125cr. The R's fairing is a little big for my taste, but the CR is sweet.

It's called progression fellas. The '69 camaro sure looks different than the '09.

Next Gen Buells are here. From tube frames to Rotax motors. No one ha a better form of progress than Buell.

Flick said at MB5 that they will keep building the air cooled bikes as long as they keep selling.

Cool, cause I like the power of the 1125 line but the motor just doesn't have the character of the air cooled ones.

Progression is progression, but I agree 100%.

A V-twin is a V-twin!

That is why I own a Buell.
