I may be able to swing the loan of a G-Tech Pro for a couple days of play. The owner of the toy isn't a motorcycle person but he is curious if it will work for the bike. One thing I need to do is add a powerport for the cigerette lighter power supply. What I am really wondering is if anyone else has played with them on their bike and has any info on what I need to be aware of before I take on this venture. In otherwords if I break it I have to obviously buy it. Will the info be worth having? Do I really want to know what kind of G's I pull on the street? Anyways take it as you will, I am curious but not sure if I am ready for the info I will find out  | ||

The biggest problem will be trying to keep it level and some way to provide maximum anti-vibrational control while you are making your runs. Also going to need to position the unit exactly pointed in the forward direction as any slight angle will introduce vector offset and upset the measurements. Keep us posted on your progress. Stay on a straight flat road to make it work the best. I'll be intersted to know if it will stay stable enough on a bike. I know my video cam mounted on the bike has major issues. | ||

Yeah, I think you have to keep it fairly level so it may not work on a bike. It should work for acceleration times and possible HP indications though. | ||

Every reading depends on the thing being level and fairly steady. It basically uses line of sight to take the measurements and converts to the output. Let us know if it works. | ||

I haven't decided if I am going to or not yet. MY biggest worry is the wiring since it wants me to tap into the igniton hot and I really hate splicing in a wiring harness. I was also more interested in lateral G's then straightline stuff which is somethign the G-Tech is supposed to be able to read. | ||

Just tap off the battery terminals no need to mess with the wiring harness. The G-Pro cigar plug has an internal fuse to protect the unit. You will be fine. The G-Pro is an accelerometer that measures G's. So if you point it stright up it reads 1.0 but if it is truly horizontal then it reads 0.00. It measures your speed and distance traveled by integrating acceleration over time. So you will start from 0 speed to make your measurements. It can read down to 2.5 milliseconds so it is pertty accurate. To get your lateral G's you will point the tool sideways (perpendicular to the direction of the vehicle). However, it still needs to remain horizontal. Hope that helps. DAVE | ||

Sounds good. If we get this nailed down and I get to play with it for a while I will post results. since I have the "R"s fairing on the front setting it and leveling it won't be a problem. |
