Some time ago, I was trying to help a friend find a new motor for his S1. After shopping around for him, he decided not to spend the money. The bike was headed for chopper territory. I stepped in and saved her. I got the bike for $1000. The motor grenaded cuz some dipshit only bored out ONE cylinder. Time to bring her back from the dead. Poor girl has been sitting for 3 years. The motor is total junk (rods hanging out of a cracked case). I have'nt decided on the motor yet. I will have pics soon. I could'nt let this bike go to a chop shop. A fine date for my XBR! It wont be lonely anymore!

Ian...

Contact the guys at Hoban Bros. in Newton, WI. They might be able to help with a rebuild. With the limited information you provided, I'm not sure the motor can be salvage. But you'd be suprise what can be done.

I'm still thinking of options. I'll give them a holler as soon as I take delivery. The cases are cracked. That I know for sure, but it leaves my options wide open. mmmmmmmmmmm.....torque mmmmmmmmmmm

Maybe a stock motor with a slight compression bump, and some cams?

sounds like the cases are the only thing that can be salvaged...

I would recomend the 88" kit with and X1 bottom end.

whatever you plan to do I'm glad you saved her and plan to get her running again. : D

Hmmmm.... you can probably buy a whole stock motor off eBay for cheap if you have patience.

Tear down the blown motor and find out what is usable. Anything that was left unharmed could be sold for extra cash or kept as spares. All the covers should be good, the tranny, carb and intake, maybe even the heads.

I did a S1 resurection a couple of years ago.
I found an X1 motor for around 2200 or so.
That bugger is FUN to ride!

We have plans for it this winter. Go big or go home.

Must have been the rear for easier wheelies!

And its not even fuel injected! You can get a brand new 7L Corvette engine for the same price and shove it in.

WOW!

That S&S is steep!

For $9,000 you could get an overstock 1125R to ride around while you looked for a cheap engine to put in your S1.

Obviously priced to target those with disposable income. "They can dispose of that income to us!"

Just curious...How much are you figuring to rebuild the "grenaded" motor?

I smell project creep already. Yep, can't miss it...

You could get a 91" for around 6K. That's a special price of course.

Dunno yet! It needs new castings, so I have to see what can be salvaged. I know it needs cylinders (seeing how they are both different). If I'm going c.i. increase, it will be with a bolt on kit. If it costs too much for the whole deal,I'll take my time and find a Cyclone motor, and change the cams. I'm keeping it simple. If it takes a couple years, so be it. I got my 85 Sporty out of a woodshed behind a bar, and it took me 3 yrs. to do a total redo on that one.

Glad to hear an S1 is being saved.

As noted above...you could always do a "first Blast" copy, as the first Blast was a thumper in an S1 frame. Thought about doing that one myself...go big on the single and really freak people out : )

The motor grenaded cuz some dipshit only bored out ONE cylinder.

say, that resembles what Ukes' did to Dyna's bike.

Realistically, the S&S price above isn't outrageous. When i did an engine build two years ago, some components like cams and Termi exhaust cost &1700 EACH.A set of Pistal racing pistons(Which needed re-machining to fit)cost $800 a pair.

I saved some money doing my own assembly and machining.

If you're not committed to building a PROPER and complete engine package you'd be better off sourcing a stock(good condition) engine
