Hello everyone,
I just wanted to tell everyone that I already have the permismile and have only ridden my bike one day. I purchased a 2006 XB12X with 13,000 miles. The previous owner took good care with all service records from the local HD shop. He had the HD shop install a race ECM, aftermarket exhaust, and high flow air filter. The sound of the mighty V-twin is awesome. The only thing that I may need to change is the seat. I am vertically challenged being only 5'7". My toes just touch both sides. I need the low seat. I have been cruising through all of the blogs trying to see what else I may need to do. The comment I like the best is "If it isn't broken, don't fix it". This is my first Buell and I have alot to learn about them. I have 2 main reason why I wanted the ULY. 1. It is an American bike. I am in the Army and I sleep, eat, and live patriotism. I hate supporting the foreign economy. My philosophy is to only buy American. 2. I live 5 miles out on a dirt road and truly needed something for this riding conditions. I have mentioned that I have only rode about 100 miles and I can't stop smiling. I can't wait to be able to make a long road trip. I am stationed at Ft. Riley, KS and it is just 7 hours to Colorado Springs, CO. If anyone out there can give me any advise or things to look out for on my bike, I would greatly appreciate it. Also, I am keeping my eyes open for a low seat. I look froward to reading more post.

Congrats! Ulys are a great ride.

Make sure the suspension is adjusted to your weight if you have not already. This will provide a better ride and might get your feet closer to the ground. I'm 5'11 and I still lean the bike a bit when I stop to get one flat foot (especially when the weight is set for me and the wife and I'm solo).

Thank you and Congratulations.

It's kind of become customary here, amongst the Soldiers, to thank folks for their service to the nation first and congratulate them on their Buell next.

We're glad to have you here.

Congrats man, I'm a new Uly owner and a soldier too. Kinda wish I would have ordered one from the get go through military car sales rather than a Harley. Be safe good luck adapting. I'm a tad inseam challenged myself and have thought about looking for a solution, but the bike rides great and is comfortable as hell so I'm not going to risk fauking anything up. Oh and some advice, although you are probably more than aware, don't mess with the exhaust or the MPs might get you as well as Colorado Police.

Welcome to Badweb, Eric. Either an 06 "low" seat or an 07-09 standard seat should meet your needs. Both seats provide approximately the same height, but some people prefer one over the other (slightly different contours, different covering, the 06 low seat has a gel insert I believe). Post in the classified section here; you may find someone willing to swap you.

You might have a tough time finding American gas refined from American crude.

If the '06 low seat is still available, it was only about $110 new. There are people here looking to trade around.

Congrats, on the Uly! I have had mine over three years and 38,000 miles. I'm still quite happy with it.

I want to thank everyone that replied to my post. I am glad to see the support that is here. So the standard seat on the newer models set lower than the 06 model? Is that what I read?

If you have the flat seat on the '06 - flat, as in, there's no dip for the rider to sit in - then yes, the stock '07up seat is lower. Another tip is to run the correct rear spring preload (see the owners' manual) for your weight. You can run a lighter weight if you want, it'll give you a bit softer ride and the bike will sag more when you plant yourself on it. But, the suspension setup section of the manual is a VERY important piece of reading. If you don't have the manual, you can log into buell.com as an owner and download the book for yourself.

Thank you, and welcome aboard!

There is a section covering seats in the New Uly Owners sub-topic.

I wanted the ULY. 1. It is an American bike. I am in the Army and I sleep, eat, and live patriotism. I hate supporting the foreign economy. My philosophy is to only buy American.

First: Thank you for your service in the military.

Second: Congratulations on purchasing the best motorcycle ever made!

Third: Continue to purchase American made products because it's people like you that make our country so great!

as for my advise on the 2006 XB12X Ulysses, just ride it for awhile and get a feel for the bike and how it suits your style of riding before doing any modifications on it. The height issue was huge for me when I purchased mine but now I'm use to it and like the high seat too! The high seat feels better on my legs when riding, not so cramped up.

Glad you bought the faster black one!

Enjoy the ride!
