It's looking like I'm going to have to replace the lifters on my 99 M2, but what lifters do I fit. Also, is it worth my while to change cams at the same time? bearing in mind that I'm not after huge power increase just trouble free reliability. Any help & advice much appreciated, thanks, Innes. |

Just bought a set of stock cams out of a 1998 S1W for my 1999 Cyclone. Can someone supply me with the specs? I'm running a Borla slip-on, race module and re-jetted CV. Is this a good combo? Thanks in advance. |

Lightning cam is the Andrews N-4 for Evolution Sportsters. You can see its specs at andrews-products.com or nightrider.com |

Aren't those cams the same as the Screaming Eagle bolt in cams? Steve |

Buellmeister... When you have the cams out, look very closely at your oil pump drive gear. Or don't look at it at all, just pull it out and replace it, it's only a $10 or so part, and won't add any time to the job. A number of these have failed and lead to catastrophic engine failures. |

Thanks guys! It never ceases to amaze me the amount of knowledge this board offers. Buelling in West Virginia. (Alone mostly, the natives here haven't a clue what a Buell is. The local dealer carries them only because he HAS TO.) |

Is there an aftermarket or redesigned gear that is not prone to such failures? |

I know about the oil pump gear cos it went the day I bought the bike, & the lifters have been a bit noisy since the rebuild tho the bike runs fine |

Hoot: Zippers used to sell a bronze oil pump pinion gear , it has been discontinued. The only solution I can think of is WAY expensive , involving the purchase of an S&S crank which uses the pre 1988 style pinion shaft , this is a splined shaft / gear combo , MUCH stronger cam pinion , it does not use the cheesy little " T " key which is used on the 88 and up cranks. I suppose if a guy needed to buy a crank anyways , this would be a sensible upgrade , me , I'd order one of them fancy knife edged super light jobs they offer now. I keep a couple of the stock pinion gears on the shelf at home ( just in case ), having changed several for various people , and having to wait for parts to be ordered kinda pissed me off , now I keep a few on hand to avoid delays. |

I just inspected mine(both pinion and drive gears), no unusual wear or marks .They're fine. |

I have a friend that is switching his 2001 883 sportster's top end with a buell's. He purchased the parts with the bike but has no idea what he has. The rear head has "buell" stamped on the underside but there is a wire on the top. I don't know anything about fuel injected bikes but could this be some kind of temp sensor for the fuel injection? His sporty has a carb on it, would that matter? |

Rookie, Yes it is a temp sensor and he can just take it out and sell it for a few bucks or give it to a fellow Bueller. It will not matter at all. Steve |
