I have a 97 S3 and ive had some trouble with my clutch dragging not too long ago. Adjusted primary chain, cable and clutch already..a few times..and today the lever slacked up a great deal and now the clutch really doesnt disengage..it wont even roll with the clutch pulled in. It will disengage enough while riding to rev the bike up and then I still feel a small increase in speed..any ideas? |

Check the clutch cable at the lever. There may be broken cable strands at the ferrule affecting proper operation. The end of the cable has a ferrule that must swivel in the lever unless there is dirt or a lack of lube jamming it. Every 10k miles, it's a good idea to clean this ferrule and pressure lube the cable to keep the like-new clutch feel. One more thing, the stock clutch pack has a spring plate that is affectionately dubbed the "grenade plate" because it is a sub-assembly made up of one spring and two steel plates held together by brass rivets. Over time the plates wear to the point that the rivets break and the assy grenades apart fouling up the clutch action. If you've never replaced the clutch or if the bike has over 30k miles, you might take the clutch apart to inspect its condition. |
