So I what I thought to be a nice dirt road today... it was gravel initially then changed to nasty mud. Was glad it was short cause those stock tires are not so good in red clay mud... I was sliding all over. Kept her up though, and that's my first mud in about ten years. Not quite the same on a big heavy Uly as on my Suzuki 125 enduro! But it was fun and my pig got dirty for the first time!

Yeah I know... I'm *seriously* considering buying the Avon Distanzias... I see that they make them in the same size as the Pirelli MT60 and I know some folks have gotten those on the rear rim. They look like winners, and I'm okay with reduced tread life if I can get some more dirt action. |

The Uly is NOT a dirtbike, its weight is a big disadvantage in sand. I would tend to disagree!
Here is the ride report! http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=467812 The bike only goes where the driver steers!! |

So I sent the following email to Avon today... maybe I'll score a new tire! Still considering trying to get the 160/60/R17 on the back rim. I also ponder such things as "How difficult would it be to put a 60 wide rim on the back?" I'm mechanically challenged, but I guess that half inch much be pretty damn difficult because a lot of guys on here that are great mechanics haven't done it yet! Dear Avon, I just thought someone should let you know that if you offered a better DS tire such as the Distanzia in the size 180/55/R17 that you would sell tons of them. Perhaps your marketing folks should check out websites like www.badweatherbikers.com and learn about the countless people with Buell Ulysses XB12X adventure bikes who are all looking for a better tire than a Dunlop D616 or Pirelli Scorpion Syncmaster. Honestly, no company has yet attempted to make a good all purpose tire for this motorcycle, and your Distanzia already comes in the correct front tire size. I would even take the burden upon myself of testing such a rear tire for you, if you need. Another disappointed Ulysses dirt road rider, Joshua Wall |
