AFter having my AFVs locked for quite some time, I went into to get the latest flash. Just on the way home the front AFV dropped to 85.5 and the rear remained at 100.

There has been some speculation that the gas fumes that eventually end up in the front cylinder, via the carbon can might be the reason the front AFV tends to dip.

Obviously an informal poll...

Anyone with a 49 state bike seen an abnormally low front AFV?

How about Cali bikes--specifically interested in those warm climate bikes.

Before I locked mine, they were both at 99.5. I'm about 100 miles north of you, so it's definitely a warm climate.

California here.

When I finally got around to checking, my front was 87.5 and rear was 100.0. I happened to be taking it in for service anyway, so I mentioned it and it came back 100.0 front and rear (tech swore he did nothing). Now, 2 weeks later, front is 85.5 and rear is 100.0.

Hm.

Marco, your tech probably flashed the bike, which will set the AFV both to 100%.

Daggar, is your carbon can at the stock configuration? I remember that my dealer relocated the venting (effectively bypassing the carbon can and making it like a 49 state bike.) I put it back myself.

That seems to have happened a lot to the Cali bikes that went in early for that recall. I had to put mine back too.
I get my bike back tomorrow with the new flash so we'll see what happens. Same as before, there's nothing wrong with the bike or my front O2 sensor to throw that CEL/code I had.
Unseasonably cool now and if it stays that way I doubt the front afv will drop a lot until it heats up again.

CA bike here, 85.5 f 100 r bike has never run as good as when it had the original flash, all the reflashes have only helped my MPG by just a couple, nothing else- original flash use to run smoother and make more power. Also use to have 100 f&r on afv.

Bigblock, so when you say original flash--do you mean the original stock from the factory?

I just got the 05Z flash and the AFVs were at 100F&R. After riding a bit, they are now 95F and 100R. My bike is 48 states, not a Cali bike. I also have a K&N filter. Before I got the reflash, they were also skewed toward the front. It is not just Cali bikes.

Guys, can someone explain just what you mean by locking the AFV's and why you would want to do this, also how its done? I thought they automatically read the fuel value being used in different conditions and fed info to the ECM to keep the bike running well in those different conditions. I just look at mine occasionally. Where am I going wrong? Bob

Went out today and did some "spirited" riding and the AFVs are now at 90F and 100R.

Does the Cali bike vent to the intake from the charcoal canister?

By the original flash, yes, I mean the as delivered from the factory flash on my bike, which is a Dec. '07 build.

Don't get me wrong, my bike does run decently, it is a pretty good bike, other than the two months out of the first twelve that the dealer had it for all the assorted problems that "a few people" have experienced. And I did have all of them.

And, I hope they will eventually address the still leaking yet "repaired" clutch, which I have to keep an eye on every ride now.

But, I did get well over 100 trouble free and VERY FUN miles of riding in this weekend, and I can't seem to keep tires on the darn thing.

I did the 30 mile loop chasing my old desert racing friend on his '09 R1 today, he says I am only the second guy that can ride with him on this deserted stretch of rural road.

I did learn to keep up with him here on my old M2, although he was riding an '99 R1 back then, and I sure had to wring the piss out of the old girl to do it, it is pretty casual on the 1125.

And every one that sees it conpliments me on her. I don't know where all the people who "hate" the looks are, because, believe me, the people I ride with, they WILL TELL YOU if they don't like your bike. I get (or used to pre 1125) a LOT of sass from EVERYONE I rode with for being a Buell owner.(every non-Buell guy, that is, which is most of 'em)

SOrry, back to subject...

I do not have a cali bike and it ran 85F 90R consistently through all the various flashes ever since it was new. The AFV's are now locked at 97F 102R and she has never run better.

My non-Cali. bike was always at 100F and 100R in cooler weather. Now in warmer weather and the canister installed, the front hovers from 84.5 to 90, and the rear between 90 and 94.5. Also since install, the bike runs a little rougher and hot starts are terrible. The only plus to the canister is no fuel dripping in the driveway and garage.

Well as I learned this weekend there is a separate series of flashes for the Cali bikes. There very well may be some software differences because of the cannister and not just the cat.

Cobradave it's possible you may have to choose between the cannister or running quality at some point. Sense the DT refused to load a 49er flash to my bike, it likely won't load a Cali flash to yours. Not that you'd want to do that as it's for cat equipped bikes anyway.

I always had same or close F&R on Loretta.
Always after flashes, 100 forever, then learn; 94.5 was butter smooth 02W and earlier.
03Z - 100F&R fairly smooth, better a month ago when I locked AFV at 94.5 again, 05Z not much diff.

Just locked at 96 F&R - butter smooth, 5000' ASL.
This is good, always looking for better.
