I know this is an old subject but... I have never taken my '06 Uly in for the sidestand recall. I keep a close eye on the pivot bolt and mounting bolts. A couple of questions, I purchased a sidestand leg service kit a while back P/N L1167.1AK it has the leg only with a new pivot that is retained with a "E" clip. Never installed it. Is this kit worth putting on? Secondly...if not then what is the P/N of the updated stand so I can order one and put it on myself. Never went back to dealer as its a 70 mile one way trip and is a hassle as I don't have a trailer or truck and need someone to follow me. Also I have never had the BAS recall done as well. I've never had the engine shut off thing so I guess I'm lucky on that one. Can I get this kit myself to install? Thanks to all for any help! David |

David- IIRC, the sidestand recall includes new bolts which you don't seem to have with your kit. I doubt they'll sell or give you the parts for the BAS recall. Your dealer should be able to do both these jobs in a couple of hours. HOPEFULLY if you schedule it ahead of time they'd fix it while you wait. |

Is this kit worth putting on? Yes. June '06 I ordered a spare leg and pivot bolt and that kit is what Buell sent me instead. The pin replaces the bolt in the original bracket, but as Hughlysses mentioned the mounting bolts were suspect also. The actual recall kit includes the assembled stand/bracket, mounting bolts, exhaust Torca clamp and front muffler strap. At the American Sport Bike BBQ that year one of Al's buddies was walking around with a wrench and checking pivot bolts. Nearly every XB he checked that still had the old style pivot was loose. When the pivot bolt backs out there's a lot of stress on that little threaded end, made worse by the Uly's height. You've got the kit, might as well use it. I'd also drop the muffler and replace the mounting bolts while you're at it, Part #CA0015.02A8, they're used elsewhere on the bike also. |
