Have a minor weep/leak on the left rear corner of the rear rocker cover. Think its only the upper cover that’s leaking. 1. Plan on replacing the upper cover seals only. Should I also replace the lower seal? Your thoughts. 2. If possible, I want to try rolling the engine with the muffler in place. With T-Rex stands, will I be able drop the engine enough to remove the cover? |

Mmcn49, 1st time rocker cover gasket leaked had the dealer do it under warranty. Started leaking again soon after. So I got new gaskets and opened the service manual and replaced em again myself. If I remember to get to the rear cylinder u got to rotate the engine pretty far. With T-Rex stands it will be close. It was a while ago that I did it I rotated the motor a bunch. Watch out for the wiring harness on top and make sure it clears the throttle cable bracket attached to the intake while rotating the engine. Take ur time and get everything as clean as possible and follow the service manual for torquing and all should be good. C. |

Mmcn49: Just finished the same repair on my 2007 XB12R. It had been leaking for a while and it gummed up the cooling cooling fan and made it start blowing fuses. Follow the instructions in the manual and as Cringblast mentioned above, make sure you watch the throttle cables as you lower the motor, as the way they are routed from the factory they WILL get hung up on the wire harness. I rerouted mine so this wont happen in the future. And don't worry about the lower rocker box gasket. just replace the upper o rings. Two per head. |
