haha you are dumb. I use the Vehicle code as a tool to stop vehicles and find out who people are. I do not write tickets unless they are a criminal. FISHING is us USING the LAW to work. You dont know shit about the law huh? haha and where i work, no one kisses our ass. I live in San Diego and work in the worst place in SD. I did not say i illegally stop people. re read it. you love name calling like most teenagers do. do you know there are over 2000 pages of vehicle violations in california that you can be ticketed, arrested for? i dont need to illegaly stop people. you just need to know the law. By innocents being caught in the action i meant, when i stop a vehicle for a violation hoping for a criminal to be inside and it is not a criminal, they get stopped and released. Isn't there a silly little thing in our Constitution that says something like the right of the people to be free from unnecessary search and seizure??? I remember something vaguely like that from high school civics class. Pulling anyone over in an attempt to "identify" someone seems an awful lot like fishing. Ride a Buell and you are a criminal?? That is no different that a person with a HOG patch is a 1%er. My favorite though is DWB, DWA. Not that any of those EVER happens. Really. No, Really! |

And now under Obama's Homeland Security, Military Veterans are considered suspect as potential terrorists. Isn't that a giant kick in the balls. More laws, less freedoms every year, can't take your guns away, we'll take your ammo. Now ONLY cops will have ammo, scary thought eh? "I know, you have a pistol" "If the other guy has a Colt?" In the end that's what it will boil down to. Every city/town doesn't have a SWAT team to fight criminals, there aren't that many. A lot of cops believe that it's us against them, they may be right soon. When they come for your guns, give them your bullets. |

none of you know the law. you do commit a crime when yo do not use your blinker, headlight, what have you. may not be an arrestable crime but it is a crime. Not using your headlights is also common with drunks. I stop a vehicle or no headlight/headlight out. (I know about MC lights so relax) In that stop, I am 1st checking if the driver is under the influence. then i check their history. So i stop a car legally for driving without headlights thinking their is a chance the person is drunk. When i go fishing, I catch someone who has committed a crime, in hopes of getting a bigger fish (Felony). if the person is not DUI/wanted, they are released. |

Rip, sounds fair to me. If I can't remember to turn on my headlight, I can't complain if I am pulled over. Why have laws and not enforce them? |

"none of you know the law." Now that statement does lend credibility to the theory that cops aren't to bright, a theory that I do not subscribe to, btw. Some of us know the law quite well, some of us better than you, I'll bet. |

I have watched this thread since it started and some of you need to take things into prospective. I have been punched in the face by a cop for no reason and was once slammed on the hood of a police car and was charged with destroying city property (chicago police). However, I have had police with weapons drawn come to my aid. Yes, some police are jerks but they all put their lives on the line everytime they put on that uniform. I have met some very nice cops and more then a fair share of cops with "issues". It is a job that either brings out the best or worst in a person. ...and thats all I have to say about that. |

The fishing works. I went on a ride along several months back with the Sac PD. When things got slow and the calls dried up, the driver started looking for traffic violators. No bikers were pulled over, but a few tickets were written for cars. One guy was on parole and his registration was past due, so he got a ticket. Another thing I realized is the correlation between the condition of the vehicle and the the likelihood of the driver having a criminal history. The cars that were older, beat up or in a state of disrepair oftentimes were being driven by folks with something in their criminal background. It was eye opening. I can't speak for the good or the bad apples in copland, but just remember that when calls slow down, they begin looking for reasons to pull people over. Whether they know about motorcycle headlights is another matter.

Bolt- I'm near the border and the cars that would appear suspicious to me are not the beat up cars but the brand new cars with paper tags. The cartels have so much money they buy a new car use it for a month and then get rid of it. I once saw a caravan of 6 brand new black 4x4 Tahoe's each with 4 guys, all with paper tags, speeding and weaving through traffic like a snake. Wish I had got a picture of that. I know they were up to no good but it looked pretty cool. |

Overall my experiences with cops have been good, but my last few times I have been stopped was for BS. I got pulled over the other night in the cage (my first time driving in about 3 months). I saw a car come flying up from behind me, so I figured rather than wait for the guy to be on my ass, I made a turn into a car dealer. This was at about midnight. Right as I was pulling in, the car behind me ended up being a cop, and started questioning me on why I pulled into a car dealership at midnight. The cop made some claim that several cars were stolen over the last few days from there. It was a Buick dealer, I don't think anyone is that desperate. Anyway after taking my paperwork he disappears to his car and after seeing that i'm not wanted he lets me go and tells me that I shouldn't be pulling into dealers lots that late at night. I am just like OK whatever, if they really didn't want anyone pulling in they would have a fence, but fine. |

I've been pulled over for 'excessive smoke' in my truck twice now. Been told to get it fixed, and asked if there's something wrong with it. Let's just say there's nothing wrong with it. |

I have police in my neighborhood just instead of pulling you over and falsely ticketing you to take your money they go to your business and you pay for their ""protection"" or else wait thats the same thing bad cops do and its not cops its gangs. Really the people who dislike cops are usually that way due to bad cops not due to the 1%er good cops see its just like bikers only with the different 99% being bad/useless. Better ticket me your going to need new cars and a raise next year. |

I know a lot of the laws, Police officers can just pull you over for nothing-anything, Legally it is called CONTACT it is viewed as the same thing as passing some one on foot and talking to them interviewing them. Also i think we are all forgetting that driving/riding is not a right but a privilege so they can stop you right there. I just try not to piss off police and law enforcement. I have plenty of friends in law enforcement. From homicide detectives, To highway patrol and they are all just people! I try to know all the laws in my state for mostly traffic. I like to keep a current PDF link bookmarked for the state fines for violations http://www.ci.slc.ut.us/courts/traffic/UHP_penalty _sched.pdf |

My kind huh? ok so ya hate buellers? whatever. you have your own opinion and your freedoms and it is allowed because of the military i served in and the police i work with ensuring you have that right. i dont mind people not liking me that is fine. i probly wouldnt like you anyways. i could assume a lot about all of you, but i am not. because i have never meet most of you. I am nothing like what most of you are assuming. but you instantly say i hate/dont like you because...... just shows that you are narrow minded. |

After I rebuilt Betty, I got pulled over by an MP the first time taking her onto base. The guy just wanted to check out the bike. Oh, well it's cool. You XB riders aren't alone with the headlight out thing.. I've got a modulator on mine so I'm constantly having people tell me that there's something wrong with it. I'm just glad they focus on the light instead of making left turns in front of me |

Such foolishness. Yes, like every other occupation, there are people who are a- holes and shouldn't be in the police service. But if there was no police our society could not exist. You say you have a gun, and you were able to prevent being robbed. If a police dept. didn't exist they would have just shot you in the back and took everything that you had. You should think a little further than the end of your nose. It's unfortunate for the police that they have the duty of vehicle law enforcement. In some places they have a separate traffic division because if it were left to the officers on patrol, it would be relegated to the smallest importance. Most violations of the vehicle code are not considered "crimes". I guess to most motorists the police might be considered "a necessary evil" But if you think you can protect yourself, if the threat of a police force to the criminals was not there, you are not at all rational. |

i beg to differ old man do you think 1870's texas would allow drug gangs to run rampant ?no,the state and local law and the community at large would hunt them down and exterminate them.and surely some would not care about the border as an obstacle to doing that. point is,an armed citizenry is a potent force.unarmed sheep, are no real deterrent at all. |

What, exactly, are you differing about? You described law enforcement in the 1870s in Texas. We call those who enforce LAWS "police" today. |
