I"m having a very intermittent problem that is progressing in it's intensity. It began as an occasional "hiccup" while on the freeway during my daily commute. It felt like a very quick loss of power for probably a tenth of a second then back to normal no backfires occurred. These "hiccups" increased in frequency for a couple of weeks. Today the problem worsened with the loss of power lasting long enough that when the power returned it backfired as well. I've had a previous wiring issue with the loss of my turn signal which the dealer found and "repaired?". Is there a particular area I should examine to look for damage to the harness?,behind the windscreen or under the seat.Or should I trust the dealer to find it using the "wiggle " test. The problem is occurring while I'm riding on some very straight stretches of freeway and while at idle at a stop I can turn the bars stop to stop and not get this problem to happen. I appreciate any comments. Barry |

Just a thought..have you pulled your spark plugs to see if they are fouled? I had similar problems to what you are describing and swapping out the plugs took care of it. |

I changed the plugs and air filter this last weekend. The plugs looked fine. This weekend I'll examine the wiring harness as carefully as I know how. Had to drive the car to work today. I hate being stuck in that thing first thing in the morning. Barry |

The same thing happens to mine. I'm going to do the breather re-rout and air box elimination and see what happens. |

Having the same problem , let us know if you find the cause ..seams like an electrical problem so Im going to have a look at the cam position wire for damage and any other wires that might be worn . also might try switching relays around just in case its a dodgy switch connection .. |

You say you replaced plugs...did you re-use the wires? They like to break internally during a plug change, due to their difficult routing/positioning, and can have an intermittent open circuit. For <$15, I'd start there... |

After reading related posts I examined the wiring harness under the seat. I saw exposed copper on three of the wires between the ecm connectors and where the cloth tape begins to wrap the harness.I wrapped these wires in some good quality electrical tape. 600 miles later and everything has been good. I am somewhat concerned that there are other locations where other Uly riders have found similar problems, I guess I really need to spend some more time and examine the entire wiring harness. In the meantime I'm VERY HAPPY I can continue riding to work everyday. I was wrong! The problem has not only returned but intensified. This last week it quit on the freeway and forced me to coast to the side. After I cycled the run switch off/on I fired it back up. It got me home but not without a lot of "hiccups" along the way. I checked the wiring harness again under the seat and behind the windscreen. No visible damage. I switched the four relays , in the fuse box, around. No help there. Next I removed the ring terminals off the two grounding points and sanded all the surfaces. Problem is still with me. Does an intermittent fault with the bank or cam sensor jive with these symptoms? I hesitate to think it would be the coils or plug wires, being the problem isn't like a constant misfire at high rpm or anything consistent at all. It seems I have a couple choices. Bring it to the dealer for the "wiggle" test and open up a new line of credit. Replace the four relays and try again. Entirely remove the main harness and inspect each wire inch by inch. Replace the main harness regardless. Any help would be appreciated. Barry |

Run a log. This will show, if it's a fuel related problem or not. |

I don't have a means to run a log of any kind. Would a log show faults that never registered a fault code? Would it be possible to take the BAS out of the equation by jumping the connector from the ecm across the 5vdc and the signal return line with a small resistor. If so what size resistor would I need to return a voltage within the operating range of .25-2.48 vdc? Sitting at Idle I get a reading of 1.2vdc, but maybe during the ride the sensor is sending back spikes above that range. Barry |

Im having the same problem only mine happens once its really warm. 1st time it happened it was 105 degrees and i was cruising at about 70-75. The second time it was 80 degrees and I was doing 35 mph easy riding. What it does is backfire and cuts out and the speedo and tach drop to zero and my amp meter indicator light stays on as normal and no engine check light comes on. Could this be an issue with the bank angle sensor or coil going away? |
