First off I've never used bike stands before. On previous bikes I've used jacks, straps, etc... I'm thinking about getting some stands, for tire changes and fluid changes. Probably wouldn't use them for much else except for general maintainance... Are using the front and rear stands a one man operation??? Are the pit bull stands worth the extra money compared with other brands for what I'd be using them for???
Thanks for your opinions...

Kevin

Are using the front and rear stands a one man operation?

Yes, but be careful. Rear stand first, then front. Never use the front stand alone. Unfortunately Buells do not have swingarm spools, which makes getting the bike on the rear stand much easier. I guess one could weld threads on for spools, but would need an expert opinion on that.

Are the pit bull stands worth the extra money?

I own Pit Bulls and really like them. Seriously well made. For the front make sure to get the forklift & converter. It allows you to both do quick wheel stuff as well as full front end work. Well worth the extra $$ if you're looking at Pitbull anyway.

I have a rear lockhart philips stand. It was about 80 bucks I think. It works great. Once the xb is on the rear stand, a jack under the muffler will lift the front wheel, so that both wheels are off the ground. I like the lp stand. It is stable enough to have the bike running while on the rear stand with the front wheel on the ground.

Dave got me a PitBull front and I had a LP rear stand. Works great. The Pit Bull is incredibly overbuilt. Super Duty hardware!

The Pit Bulls are the best, But Handy ( the people that make the bike lift tables and etc.) have a special on. You get the front & rear stands for 99 bucks. I got a pr. for my XB and they work great. Look to be well made for the money.........Later Charlie

Charlie,
Did you have to adjust the Handy stands to work on the XB? i.e spread the rear stand or lengthen the front stand?
Thanks,
DBird

On the rear stand you have to spread it about 1 1/4 I just put my foot on it and pulled up(had alot of practice straightning handlebars on dirttrackers).
On the front stand I cut 1/2 in.out of rt.leg(stand in place and facing bike) I slide a piece of tubing inside leg and put 2 ss bolts in leg. It was snowing and I couldn't get to the welding machine that day. Used a pipe cutter to cut the leg, whole thing about a 1/2 hr.........Later Charlie

Cyclonecharlie I had to do the same to the front stand on mine except I welded it.

Thanks to all for yall's opinions...I decided to go with the pit bulls, better to spend a bit more money now and not have to worry about modifying anything, and if they are as well built as I"ve heard I won't have to worry about stands for a long while... Thanks Dave, good doing business with ya... You and bubba are credits to the group. Too bad all dealerships arent as interested in supporting Buell...
