I did the first oil change on my 08 1125r last nigh (yes I made a mess). my question is this, I put 3 qts of oil in the bike, started it up and ran it for about 2 minutes, made sure there were no leaks, shut it off and checked oil level, nothing shows on the the dipstick. I waited till this morning and checked it again cold, still nothing!! What have I done wrong. The oil pressure light went out like normal and no leaks ???? any one out there experience the same thing? Thank you, Dave | ||

It's a strange beast, but I know if mine isn't perfectly level I get all sorts of out of whack readings. Bring her up level and I would wager a bet that your dead nuts on. If not...   | ||

There are 2 places to drain the oil, plus the filter. There's also a screen filter on the right side of the bike, but the exhaust must be removed (stock pipe only) to access it. To get an accurate reading, the bike must be level. Remove the dipstick, clean it, reinstall it and then check it. Cold should show up on the bottom of the stick. It will not read if it's leaning over any at all. | ||

Oh yea, I have been through this before. You have to really follow the directions for the hot check to get a accurate reading. It has to heat up, idle, sit with the dipstick loosened to get an acurate reading. Same thing happened to me. After several cold starts, there wasn,t any oil in the sump. So I added more. Then after a hard run, it all came back! Not sure were all that oil hides, but it is in there. | ||

Thanks for the replies, I did have the bike upright, I have checked the oil regularly throughout the break in so I believe I'm checking it properly. I'll take out for a ride after work and recheck it. I know I put 3 qts in it and did not want to overfill it by adding more. Thank You, Dave |
