Dampening on the rear shock of my '06 is pretty well gone. No difference between setting 4-7 on compression dampening and with both comp. and rebound dampening set to max load capacity(452lb) it just blows through travel range with my 185lb weight. Started to notice an issue with corners around 15k miles (thought it might have been tires - new front and rear at 19k miles proved that theory wrong) and now at 22k miles my Goldwing cornered better.  HD tech says rear shock is a wear item so warranty is of no value. Looking for good experiences anyone may have had in rebuild/replace/upgrade the shock and recos of one path versus the other. I'm having a similar issue. I'm wondering if the rear spring is shot. I load the bike pretty heavy when touring two-up with the missus. On a ride this weekend the bike bottomed out and wallowed in the corners badly. Does anyone have suggestions other than losing 50 lbs? Which I am working on... BTW the missus is about 130 and together we're over 420. Is there an aftermarket spring available, or do I need a better shock also?? | ||

I dont think its the spring...since spring relates to rebound and not compression dampening. I'd like to know what you guys decide to do for future reference... | ||

It may sound kind of extreme, but I decided to build a small trailer and get the extra weight off the bike. It just couldn't handle it. I have done almost 4k with the trailer in tow and love it. It is the answer for me.   (I've also lost about 19lbs so far!) | ||

Ohlins makes a replacement shock for the Ulysses, they are rather expensive but are supposed to be very good, with an external reservoir. |
